Well, I sure can’t say I saw this one coming. In an unprecedented crossover series, The Dark Knight will be kicking some ass alongside… The Ninja Turtles? Take a look at the cover of issue #1.
Honestly, this is cooler than I imagined. In a 8-year old me’s dream come true, the world’s best detective alongside the four tubular turtles is really something.
The story of Batman & The Ninja Turtles will have the Turtles, as well as their foes Shredder and The Foot Clan, transported to an alternate universe. Which universe is it? You guessed it: Gotham City. While in Gotham, The Turtles will somehow meet up and align with Batman, and face off against a slew of The Dark Night’s psychotic villains. Makes total sense, right?
Regardless of how plausible the story is, Batman & The Ninja Turtles is sure to be satisfying, at least for the nerdiness of it all. I’m going to go ahead and predict how I would proceed with the story, if it were up to me.
Batman sees the Turtles emerging from Gotham’s sewer system. Assuming they’re some sort of cronies for Killer Croc, they engage in a 4 on 1 battle. But of course, Batman’s utility belt has some sort of Turtle take down gadget, and he swiftly wins before learning they are good guys.
The turtles and Batman head to the Batcave to plan their attack. But of course, the turtles become hungry and Alfred is forced to deliver pizza to them.
The turtles meet Barbara Gordon and all four of them became quickly enamored with whatever incarnation of Batgirl/ Oracle exists in this universe. Yes, it turns out they just have a thing for redheads (we’ll just ignore than Megan Fox had a stint as April).
To make sure they don’t accidentally kill anyone with their sharp weapons, Leonardo and Raphael are forced to give their pointy weapons to the Bat, and wield more blunt gear. Sorry- Bruce Wayne don’t play around with murder.
This motley crew of super heroes confronts the Joker (obviously) and the villain fully enjoys the Turtles’ sense of humor and style of speaking. Joker begins adding “Cowabunga!” to the end of his sentences, which send him to a frenzy of maniacal laughter. The turtles add some hidden joke about Marijuana usage that goes right over the younger audience’s head.
The good guys win, and head back home. But not before making Batman an honorary turtle, and giving him his very own black mask. Roll credits.
No need to applaud, I know it’s a stroke of brilliance by my part. All jokes aside, I’m eager to see how the writers proceed with Batman & The Ninja Turtles. The first look does look pretty cool, so as long as they manage to fit the tone of both franchise’s into one series, I’m buying what they’re selling.
