The Spice Girls Are Officially Going On Tour

Spice World production still

It's no secret that the trend of nostalgia has been ruling pop culture for the past few years. Plenty of classic TV shows and movies have come back for long awaited sequels, as projects like Will & Grace and Blade Runner return to the forefront of our minds. As such, it should be no surprise that this is also extending to the world of music. While Justin Timberlake failed to bring his NSYNC bandmates onstage for the Super Bowl, The Spice Girls are coming through for 90s kids with a new tour.

Yes, you read that right. The time for Girl Power is once again upon us, as TMZ is reporting that the Spice Girls are once again reuniting for a U.K. and U.S. tour. All five original members are reportedly in the early planning stages of a tour. However, they don't plan to release any new music or having a residency in Las Vegas like Britney Spears or Lady Gaga.

This news comes just days after the group was photographed together, and shared that they might have something exciting cooking. The statement that came with the photo read:

We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching-up and reminiscing about the amazing times we have spent together. We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for The Spice Girls. The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together. We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of The Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations.

As such, we probably shouldn't be too surprised that the group has decided to tour again. With movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp taking up much of the conversation in entertainment, The Spice Girls' message of Girl Power seems like the perfect theme.

The only big shocker is that Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, is going to be involved. Just a few months ago Beckham's rep stated that she had left her career as a Spice Girl behind. But perhaps her sisters were able to convince her otherwise. But Beckham will be returning to the role of Posh Spice, and even posted their photo together.

This will be the second reunion and subsequent tour of the Spice Girls. The group reunited in 2007-2008 for a tour, and have since been involved in the writing of a musical that utilized their catalogue. The Spice is right, and they're not going anywhere anytime soon.
