Spice Girls Set To Tour Without Victoria Beckham

Never mind what fans want -- what they really, really want. Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham will not be joining the rest of the Spice Girls for the group's first tour in over a decade. At least she kinda sorta explained why she won't be there.

The other four Spice Girls just announced plans for a set of stadium concerts in the U.K. for late spring 2019. Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton, Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell, Melanie "Mel C" Chisholm, and Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown broke the news on Twitter:

So where's Victoria "Posh" Beckham? Well, she's not completely blowing them off. She shared a statement with the announcement (via Variety), revealing that "business commitments" would prevent her from joining the tour. She also added this love to her Spice fam:

Being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish my girls so much love and fun as they go back on tour, I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time!

Awww. Friendship really never ends.

The Spice Girls formed in the mid-1990s, becoming the best-selling "girl group" of all time, and the biggest British pop success since The Beatles. Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell was the one who broke up the band back in 1998, when she announced her departure. The full group reunited for a world tour in 2007-2008, and the tickets for the first London date of that tour reportedly sold out in 38 seconds. That was their last tour together, but the ladies also had a special performance during the 2012 Olympics in London.

Earlier this year, rumors spread about another reunion tour in the works. Those reports suggested all five ladies would be performing. Then Victoria Beckham nixed that rumor, saying none of the girls would be going on tour. Now we know just Posh won't be going on tour.

It always sounded suspect for Posh to be joining the tour, since Victoria Beckham's team had made it pretty clear that her focus was "firmly her family and her fashion brand." Whenever this comes up, Posh adds that she loved her time with her fellow Spice Girls, but she has moved on.

Mel B recently mocked Posh's absence by dressing up as Victoria Beckham for Halloween, even carrying a sign reading "No, I am not going on tour."

At least the girls seem to agree on this upcoming Spice Girls superhero animated movie. Apparently all five members signed off on having their likenesses used for the project, and all five are said to be voicing their own characters. The Spice Girls are reportedly "fired up" about the superhero movie, which would focus on girl power. You'll remember that all five ladies appeared together in the 1997 musical comedy Spice World, which still spices up our lives whenever we think about it.

For now, we just have the upcoming U.K. tour. Here are the 2019 dates:

• June 1 -- Manchester, England at Etihad Stadium• June 3 -- Coventry, England at Ricoh Stadium• June 6 -- Sunderland, England at Stadium of Light• June 8 -- Edinburgh, Scotland at BT Murray Field Stadium• June 10 -- Bristol, England at Ashton Gate Stadium• June 15-- London, England at Wembley Stadium

There doesn't seem to be any word yet on whether this tour will later spread beyond the U.K. But let the Spice Girls know on social media if that's what you want, what you really, really want.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
