The Jonas Brothers Did A Year Of Therapy Before Bringing The Band Back Together

The Jonas Brothers - The Late Late Show with James Corden

It's tough to make it work in the music business. Beyond the constant hurdles you need to leap in order to earn a name for yourself in the intensely competitive industry, you have to keep yourself in check. And that's without mentioning the good fortune that must be in your favor, but that's a whole other matter entirely. You have to let some things go and find the best way to move forward, especially when you work with bandmates. Otherwise, you will find yourself at odds with your best buddies and/or the people who love, including your actual flesh-and-blood brothers.

That was certainly the case for the Jonas Brothers. The sibling musicians called it quits back in 2013, hoping to pursue their own solo careers. But they finally reunited with the newly-released single "Sucker," which made a splash last week. The surprise return came unannounced to the general public, though it was apparently something that was in-the-works for quite awhile between the band members. And it took some effort to make it work. Specifically, Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas found themselves in therapy for roughly a year, learning to put aside their differences and re-develop a working relationship.

We literally spent a year basically doing therapy, working through some things and figuring out what this chapter would look like. We've had to be really open and honest. There are things in the past that bothered us from time to time, even in our performances that we would do.

As Nick Jonas explained on The Late Late Show with James Corden, it wasn't an easy road for the Jonas Brothers. They needed to patch a few things up before they learned to be bandmates again. That's not to say that they disliked each other. Rather, the sibling musicians needed to have things discussed and tensions relieved before they could pick up their instruments and rock together again.

The Jonas Brothers have known each other their whole lives. Literally. And if you have siblings, you know that sometimes things can built up, and tensions can mount. It's only human nature. So, when the Jonas Brothers had issues with each other, they can become a little more intense than your typical band squabble. These petty gripes can damage the whole family dynamic. And it's not like they can put them aside entirely when they are often together as a family in addition to being world-recognized musicians. Sure enough, they needed to find common ground again, and it took them about a year, according to Nick Jonas, to find reconciliation.

Being in a band is hard work. It might not seem like it, particularly when you're having fun. But it can be difficult to keep the party going for a long period of time. Sure enough, the Jonas Brothers had their own individual hurdles to jump in order to enter the second stage of their music career, but hopefully, they know what it takes to keep it going for the long-term. Even if (or when) difficulties arise again.
