The controversial criminal effort involved the alleged participants reportedly paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to an attorney, Rick Singer, in the hopes that their soon-to-be adult children could be placed into the colleges of their choice — regardless of their grades, eligibility or other appropriate credentials. During the initial reporting, the details were left murky when it came to Lori Loughlin's efforts in this expensive scam, but there has been potentially new information revealed that might provide insight into how Loughlin and her husband, J. Mossimo Giannulli, got involved in this effort to get their young daughter, Olivia Jade, enrolled into the University of Southern California.
The newest chunk of information was revealed in a whopping 204-page affidavit that was presented to the courts in Boston this week. As it was reported by Yahoo! Entertainment, there are authority figures that allege that Lori Loughlin and her husband were working directly with Rick Singer during his criminal operation, and they have recorded conversations between Singer, Loughlin and J. Mossimo Giannulli where Singer reveals that they are currently being audited by the IRS.
In that recorded conversation, Rick Singer reportedly tried to get everyone's stories straight about this entire operation, and he allegedly mentioned the high cash value that was passed to him by Lori Loughlin and her husband for his services, which could be considered evidence of wrongdoing. Singer has already pleaded guilty to his involvement in this criminal enterprise and he is currently working with the authorities in their investigation, which has been called the biggest college cheating scandal in United States history, due to its reported scope and scale.
Additionally, in a separate call, Rick Singer reportedly told Lori Loughlin about the IRS yet again, and Loughlin agreed that she would tell the IRS that the cash was donated to a charitable organization and not being used to put her daughter, Olivia Jade, into USC. Currently, Lori Loughlin is one of 50 people being investigated by the authorities and who have been charged for participating in this scam.
Meanwhile, Lori Loughlin has faced serious fallout beyond her legal troubles for this college admission scandal. She was dropped by the Hallmark Channel in light of this media disaster, where she appeared in the television series When Calls the Heart, among many of the network's other shows and movies. Plans are reportedly in place to handle her absence from the program. Meanwhile, it's also confirmed that Loughlin will not return for the newest and final season of Netflix's Fuller House, and the cast members of that television series are not willing to discuss this issue publicly. So, basically, even if Loughlin walks away from this criminal case without being convicted, her career is currently in tatters.
