Fans excited about Outkast recombining to record new songs may need to table that joy. Big Boi, the less flashy, short-haired half of arguably the greatest music duo of the last two decades was arrested earlier this afternoon on drug charges. He was reportedly disembarking from a cruise ship when drug-sniffing dogs alerted authorities. Customs officials checked his bags and found ecstasy pills, MDMA powder, paraphernalia and Viagra, which is illegal without a prescription.

According to TMZ, Big Boi was taken to the station and charged with three felony counts of possessing a controlled substance and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia. He remains in jail on sixteen thousand dollars bond but is expected to be released shortly.

For those concerned about both Big Boi's and Outkast's futures, take solace in the fact that the musician doesn't seem to have been charged with intent to distribute. Most celebrities aren't drug dealers but because they have more disposable income, they sometimes carry drugs in large quantities. That doesn't seem to be the case here. Being caught with ecstasy is certainly more of a slap on the wrist than being busted for pot, but he still may avoid jail time.

As he's still in police custody, no statement has yet been released from Big Boi himself or his management team, but expect some type of comment to be given within the next few days. We'll keep you updated as this story progresses.
