Collaborations have been all the rage over the past few months. From the odd to the spectacular to the overhyped, teamwork has been on full display. Certainly there were collaborative efforts prior, like Run-DMC and Aerosmith walking their own way or the fantastic Linkin Park and Jay-Z record mash, but those endeavors never really clustered together enough to form a trend. That's definitely not the case now. Perhaps my favorite effort in this style has been Blokroc, a blues-rap tinged record with The Black Keys and various hip-hop artists. The heated blues style of rock music from the Keys and the hip-hop lyricism from rhythmic titans like Raekwon, RZA, Mos Def, and Q-Tip, is inseparable. If you haven’t listened to this album already, then you seriously need to consider checking it out. It’s that good. Now the Black Keys are ready to test out their already proven formula again, with an equal called Blokroc 2.

More than welcoming, this sequel to the record will include no drop in the “high quality” standard for its collaborators that made the first so special, with Talib Kweli, Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Jay Electronica, and The Cool Kids taking up some of the appearing spots. I'll leave it up to Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney to find those artists' niche. It’s still up in the air who else will work on the record, but I’m comfortable with what we have now.

With the massive amount of work they’ve done, by endlessly touring and coming out with their last album Brothers just last year, it’s not surprising to hear that the Keys are also coming out with another record early next spring. Even though the album title is still unknown, I am sure it’ll be amazing. If for anything, solely based on the fact that Danger Mouse has hopped back on as producer and because his spectacular mind was behind their best album to date, Attack & Release. It also helps that the new album is being compared to a mix between the sounds of The Clash and Black Sabbath. That’s always a good combo.
