I'll be the first to admit I thought Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were going to be a flash in the pan, yet another home-wrecking, on-set romance guaranteed to ruin several lives. I seem to have been wrong. I still can't endorse Pitt walking out on America's sweetheart Jennifer Aniston, but as far as immediate divorce aftermath relationships go, Pitt and Jolie have been remarkably stable. Six years and six kids later, the couple who have long skirted around marriage have reportedly decided now may well be the time.

According to US Magazine, the pair have settled on sometime in the next few months for the nuptials. They said years ago they'd wait until homosexuals had the right to marry, but after lengthy and extensive prodding from the kids, they've decided a wedding may be in the family's best interests. I have to agree.

There's nothing inherently wrong with having kids outside of a marriage, but more often than not, having kids outside of a stable, committed relationship is bad policy, especially at a young age. Pitt and Jolie are both mature, stable and financially secure enough to actively support children, but some day, their kids may look to their unmarried example and decide to reproduce too early. Tying the knot may not specifically change anything in a relationship, but it does represent a firmer commitment.

What do you think? Should they get married simply to please their kids? Sound off in the poll below…
