New Bridget Jones Novel Will Hit Shelves Next Winter

Helen Fielding is writing a brand new Bridget Jones novel. The writer’s most famous character will return for her 3rd novel fairly soon. Fielding’s U.S. publisher, Knopf, announced the news on Tuesday, noting that the third book in the series will be available for purchase in the U.S. in November of 2013.

Bridget Jones has shared a couple of diaries over the years, but it has been a while since we’ve heard from the warm and witty character written by Fielding. While the last novel based on the heroine was written in 1999, Fielding did write several columns in her character's perspective that were published in The Independent between 2005 and 2006 (the news outlet was the first to publish the author’s stories which eventually became the novel Bridget Jones’ Diary). If you haven’t been keeping up, in those last stories, Jones had a major life overhaul, finding herself pregnant with Daniel Cleaver’s baby, which was probably a big ”ouch” for Mark. Besides, even those stories were published over six years ago, and a lot can happen to a person in that sort of span of time.

Currently, there are not a lot of details being released about the upcoming novel, which means we don't even have a name for it, yet. However, the Wall Street Journal is reporting the new book will be set in London in the present day, and will follow “a new chapter” in Jones’ life. Since those last Independent articles featured Jones getting pregnant, I have no idea what the writer has in store for the character, suffice to say that six years later, she’s likely a mom of a school-aged child, unless something went terribly awry. As new details leak, we will be here to post them.
