After nearly three decades of mostly happy, non-married togetherness, Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed finally made it official in front of God and the state of California. The vows were exchanged at the Beverly Hills Hotel and were watched by four hundred of the couple’s friends and family members including Gene’s Kiss bandmates, assumedly sans makeup, and Bill Maher. The pair's daughter Sophie reportedly served as the maid of honor, but there’s no word on what, if anything, son Nick was assigned to do. I’d imagine he at least contributed his trademark snarky comments and annoyed facial gestures.

According to TMZ, the whole thing was a glitzy affair. The bride reportedly wore more than two million dollars in jewelry. All that bling seems a bit outrageous, at least until you consider how much money Gene has made off of peddling Kiss pinball machines, concert tickets and condoms. He easily ranks as one of the ten greatest self-promoters in history. In keeping with that business strategy, details of the wedding will appear on the couple’s reality show.

I’ve gotta admit, I’m shocked they actually made it down the aisle. You don’t go twenty-eight years not doing something and then suddenly change your mind. His proposal was probably ruminating for a decade before Gene mentally decided he was okay with it.

What do you think? Did you expect the musician to get cold feet, or did you know he’d confidently stroll down that aisle? Let us know by voting in the poll below…
