Elizabeth Smart Marries In Hawaii To Avoid Media Attention

When Elizabeth Smart and Matthew Gilmour announced their engagement through a family spokesman last month, I highly doubt either thought the story would attract as much attention as it did. After all, it’s been almost a decade since Smart was miraculously found alive nine months after she was abducted from her bedroom window, but apparently, many Americans still haven’t totally lost their interest in the case they watched play out on the news night after night.

In Smart’s native Utah, the media attention was reportedly very aggressive and even somewhat invasive following the engagement; so, in order to bypass the headaches, the couple decided to jump the gun. According to KSL, the pair, accompanied by immediate family members, flew to Hawaii and tied the knot over the weekend. The decision was reportedly made by Smart herself about a week ago, and while the ceremony may not have been planned as closely as she would have wanted, getting married in Hawaii isn’t exactly a bad gig.

The I-Dos were officially exchanged earlier today at the Laie Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Oahu. The now married couple will reportedly depart for a long honeymoon in the coming days. Not surprisingly, that destination is being kept very closely under wraps to prevent the same situation which required the quickie marriage.

Pop Blend wishes Smart and Gilmour nothing but the best as they embark on this new phase of their lives.
