I’m not sure what Mariah Yeater expected when she publicly accused Justin Bieber of fathering her child, but for her sake, I hope she was prepared for the negativity. Beliebers have flooded Twitter, calling the twenty-one year old single mother everything from a fame whore to a liar. Lately, the harsh words have turned both funnier and scarier as the pop star’s most devoted defenders have incessantly retweeted the lyrics to “Billie Jean” and threatened to “cut a bitch”.

I’ll never forget where I was when I heard Bill Clinton might have had an affair with an intern. I was sitting on the couch in the living room next to my father. He turned to me and said, “Yeah, I can see that.” I could too. A combination of his past and a gut instinct, it just seemed like an accusation that could have been true. Right now, we’re in the early stages of this Bieber drama. Very few facts about the case have been publicly released. All we know is Mariah Yeater claims to have had thirty seconds of unprotected sex with Justin Bieber in a bathroom after his concert. That encounter supposedly produced a baby boy who was born three months ago. Beyond that, we know nothing, but unlike the Clinton story, many are having a hard time imagining any of this transpiring. Thus, the hostile reactions.

We’ll likely know within a few months whether there’s any validity to the sexual encounter or the fathering of the child, but for now, the negativity and anti-Mariah Yeater tweets show no signs of stopping. Dozens are popping up every minute, and not surprisingly, they seem to be getting more venomous.
