Kai The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker Wanted On Murder Charges

Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker (not to be confused with Kai the cute kid) was declared a hero in February when he stopped a crazy dude who rammed his vehicle into a utility worker, using a hatchet. Yes, a hatchet. A subsequent video brought the kid to viral fame and he eventually appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, among other outlets. However, the young hitchhiker has now drifted into some trouble he may not be able to get out of: he’s wanted for murder in New Jersey.

On Monday, the body of a 73-year-old man named Joseph Galfy was found inside his New Jersey home. It was determined the man died of blunt force trauma and later his death was connected with Kai. Kai, whose real name is Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, evaded authorities after the event, later meeting a lawyer and dropping by the victim’s house. According to ABC News, the young hitchhiker eventually hopped a train out of state.

Authorities are working right now to catch and question the young hitchhiker. However, his version of the events leading up to the death of Galfy is pretty clear. Kai took to Facebook to explain his side of the story on Tuesday.

“What would you do if you woke up with a groggy head, metallic taste in your mouth, in a strangers house... walked to the mirror and seen come dripping from the side of your face from your mouth, and started wretching, realizing that someone had drugged, raped, and blown their fuckin load in you? what would you do?”

Whatever the story, the police are trying to actively catch up with the young man and are offering a $5,000 reward for his capture. Sometimes life takes people along strange and messed up paths and hopefully, Kai’s story won’t end as dismally as it seems to be going right now.
