Keanu Reeves is close to, if not quite, the most famous ‘stoner’ in Hollywood. He’s right up there with Shaggy, Cheech/Chong, and Harold/Kumar. Not just because he played a pseudo stoner in Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure but because his acting style is serene to the point of bleary-eyed, marijuana-induced stupor-ville. In part because of this, he is one of those weird actors that huge segments of the young-adult population have found themselves absolutely enthralled with. So when a picture of a mopey Keanu was posted on the Internet, an entire movement sprung up to liven his mood.

Now, Keanu has embraced the sadness in a sixteen page book with mopey, pitiful phrases attached to hand drawn mopey, pitiful images. As told to The Guardian, Reeves came up with phrases like “I draw a hot sorrow bath” in his kitchen at a birthday party for Janey Bergman, the book’s editor. Bergman then passed the phrases on to Alexandra Grant, a mutual friend and artist, who drew the images inside of the book. For those truly concerned for Reeves well-being, don’t worry, he’s in on the joke. Here’s how he described coming up with the self-pity-loving-phrases.
"I was in my kitchen hanging out with my friend Janey, and the radio was on – and this station was playing, like, an orgy of depressing, self-pitying, nostalgic music. You know: 'I'm so lonely and I've been left and my heart is broken.' It was so voluptuously horrible. And I just started to write on this piece of paper, because I had this image of, you know, that moment when you take that bath, you light that candle, and you're really just kind of depressed. And it was making Janey laugh so hard, I just kept going, piling on the self-pity."
The book runs around forty dollars, and there’s no way I can justify that price other than saying that it is put together very well, and is great if you’re the kind of person that has artist’s renderings of Pixar characters and “The Art of The Nightmare Before Christmas” lying around your house.
