There really isn’t a ‘bright side’ to living an impoverished life in East Africa, but I suppose if there was, it would be that you get lots of attention from Hollywood every once in a while. What? That doesn’t lift the spirits of the starving men, women, and children of Africa? Seriously, if a hefty donation of food and water once a year from Lady Gaga doesn’t do it for you, I just don’t know what will. ...

E! Online has the story on the new “I’m Gonna Be Your Friend" movement that is being partaken in by a huge slew of celebrities including Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, U2, Eminem, and Rihanna. The goal is the usual, raise money and awareness for the cause at hand; it’s not terribly original, but it tends to get the job done. No specific monetary donations were announced, but I’ll give the celebs the benefit of the doubt and assume that they chipped in to the charity they’re all promoting this week.

The awareness portion of the campaign comes through sharing a video directed by Kevin McDonald that is set to a Bob Marley song, which can be seen below.

More information can be found at the charity’s website and the video/song can be purchased from iTunes, with all the money heading to this fund. It’s a nice charity, and if all it takes is buying a song on iTunes, there’s really no excuse not to, right?
