Larry King is a strange guy. Through eight marriages and sixty thousand odd interviews, his weirdness has been well-established. As a result, the long-time host has a bit more trouble surprising than most, but he still turned some heads yesterday when his afterlife plans were announced. Apparently, the seventy-eight year old is planning on having himself frozen as soon as he kicks the bucket.

Like Ted Williams, King will put his body on ice in case a cure is found for whatever he dies of. Given his advanced age, the likelihood of him passing from a weird disease is a bit low, but hey, if you have the money, I guess it’s worth taking a chance. The strange post-death wish came out during the taping of CNN Presents: A Larry King Special: Dinner With The Kings. The sitdown featuring Conan O’Brien, Tyra Banks, Russell Brand and several others aired on Sunday evening and touched on numerous issues decidedly less strange than that.

I, for one, hope King’s wild plan works because I’d like to watch him interview celebrities for the rest of my life. There’s something about his straightforward, soft ball questions that I find incredibly endearing. You could tell him you murdered your wife, and he would calmly say, “I see. What was your motivation?”, without the slightest hint of aggression or condemnation. I’m glad all journalists aren’t like that, but there is certainly a place for his angle in the world.
