Pop star Nick Jonas paid a special visit to the White House on Tuesday (23Jun09) to meet U.S. President Barack Obama and greet fellow diabetes sufferers.

The Jonas Brothers star is in Washington, D.C. to voice his opinion on government funding for diabetes research at Wednesday's (24Jun09) Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee hearing, where he'll be joined by other celebrity diabetics such as actress Mary Tyler Moore and retired boxer Sugar Ray Leonard. But, before it was time to get serious, Jonas treated a group of 100 kids visiting Obama to a surprise appearance, signing autographs and taking photos with the children.

And the star, who met Obama's daughters Sasha and Malia when he and his brothers played at the Kids' Inaugural Ball in November (08), was overjoyed at being given the opportunity to meet the Commander-in-Chief.

He tells People.com, "It was great. He came up and thanked me for meeting his daughters and playing for them. I said, 'It's a pleasure to meet you.' He said, 'It's a pleasure to meet you, too.' Then we took a picture with about 100 kids." (MT/WNWCPL/KL)
