One Track Sunday: Britney Spears Debuts Work Bitch Early

On Sunday, Britney Spears woke up and found that a low quality version of her brand new single “Work Bitch” had leaked. The pop star and her team worked to go ahead and push up the release of the new single so that fans could hear the real deal and now the track is available over at her VEVO site. Normally, I would say that any day featuring a new Britney Spears song is a good day, but I wasn’t impressed by either “Ooh La La” or her collaboration with will.i.am, “Scream & Shout.” With her recent track record in mind, I gave the new single, “Work Bitch,” a shot, hoping for the best and expecting something in between. As I suspected, “Work Bitch” is a catchy electronic dance track that will no doubt get ample play in clubs but gives us a much harder Britney, rather than the fun, whimsical girl who popped up in 2011’s Femme Fatale.

The opening lines in the song feature some references to highly prized objects in society, " You want a hot body? You want a Bugatti? You want a Maserati? You better work bitch!" That’s pretty much the whole theme of “Work Bitch," a pulsating dance track that uses Spears' signature 'bitch' line to keep the beat moving, rather than say or emote all that much. So far, what we've gotten is a far cry from the "personal and different" album Spears promised a few months ago, but it is a little more in keeping with what will.i.am has been discussing--an album that's not simply about Spears singing about partying and dancing. Though "Work Bitch" is still a dance song, at least it's a dance song about working.

If you follow Spears on Twitter, you can check out the work her team put in to move up the radio release of the song today. She posted a sad message this morning, followed by some retweets of her staff. You can check them out below.

Spears and her team have been prepping for “Work Bitch,” for a while, now. The song is the first single off of Spears’ eighth studio album, which is tentatively expected to be dropped sometime late this year. Last week, Spears took to Instagram to share some photos from the “Work Bitch” video, which has already been shot and should be hitting homes sometime soon. Until then, we’ll have to content ourselves with that crazy Vegas feather costume the pop princess is rocking on the “Work Bitch” cover.
