With negotiations for the rights to Kim Kardashian’s sex tape still ongoing, the reality star’s partner in the X-rated clip is angling to make sure he’s included in any financial transaction. Musician/ actor Ray J owns a portion of the copyright to the lucrative clip, and he’s apparently concerned this potential deal may not recognize his stake. To cut off any underhanded deals at the pass, his lawyer has sent a letter to Vivid reminding the adult entertainment company not to move without first consulting his client.

TMZ obtained a copy of the legal brief in which the litigator not only warns the parties against acting prematurely but also makes a strong case that the clip has somehow hampered Ray J’s career. Here’s an excerpt…
My client rarely has a conversation with industry professionals where the Tape has not been mentioned or questioned ... no amount of money can relieve him from this nightmare.

Four years after her infamous sex tape first leaked to the public, I think it’s fair to say that the explicit footage helped not only Kim Kardashian’s career but that of her entire family, save maybe step-father Bruce, who was and will always be an Olympic legend. The effect on the career of Kim’s pornographic partner Ray J however, is a little less black and white. He already had a few successful albums under his belt when the clip first made its way onto the internet, and while he eventually got his own reality show, For The Love Of Ray J, it certainly didn’t prove to be a cash cow on par with Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Vivid has already stated it believes the clip is worth somewhere north of thirty million dollars. It’s unclear whether the still anonymous buyer is willing to go that high, but if he or she does, expect Ray J to get his hands on a portion of that loot. He may claim to be disgusted by its existence, but he’s definitely not above profiting from it a bit more while he still has the chance.
