Lady Gaga and Katy Perry might compete for the most avant garde fashion wardrobes, but Rihanna may have them beat in ability to be inflammatory. Never shy about trying new things – namely wild haircuts – the singer recently moved into wearing controversial jewelry.

Rihanna caused some drama on Friday when she was seen wearing an offensive piece of jewelry in Rio. When I think offensive jewelry, my mind sort of lingers on leather straps and chains, but the jewelry in question is a simple plaque on a necklace boasting the word “cunt.” In an everyday setting, this would be distasteful. However, in Rio, Rihanna wore the aforementioned necklace into a church. That’s sort of like titty-slapping God in the face. No one wants to see that happen.

I assume Rihanna had the jewelry made because somewhere, sometime, someone used a c-bomb to describe her. Maybe the jewelry is a defense against useless fan predators or a giant “fuck you” to the four-letter word, but it is still a childish response. We typically like our rock stars to be over-the-top characters, but there is a time and place for everything, and I’m pretty sure bringing your bull into church ain’t it.

Here’s some sound advice, Rihanna, from one cunt to another. Stick with C-bombs on the stage, and TMZ will have no reason to plaster your jewels all over its site.
