Speaking without all the dirty glamour that usually surrounds him, actor Colin Farrell revealed his four-year-old son, James, has a genetic disorder. Farrell’s only child was born with Angelman Syndrome, a condition that affects speech and motor skills. But the handsome, hard partying, Irish movie star is determined to ensure his son grows up to be happy and healthy.

According to the UK Sun, Farrell says, ”He has his own journey going on, has certain issues...But he‘s an incredibly happy boy…I have never thought of my son as being someone with a disability. It goes back to special needs and what is a disability and what isn’t.”

Angelman Syndrome has confounded the medical community and parents, and according to their website, often to leads to misdiagnosis as cerebral palsy, autism or other childhood disorders.

The 31-year-old star of Miami Vice and Minority Report recently served as an ambassador for last week’s Special Olympics in China. And he even predicted James will one day be a champion at the International Special Olympics.

He and the child’s mother with whom he shares custody, US model Kim Bordenave, have good reason to discuss and celebrate their son. “He took his first steps about six weeks ago. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”
