Watch Jimmy Kimmel Prank People With New Apple Watch

Jimmy Kimmel shows the world that we are more corporate obsessed than informed on making good decisions in his latest prank video. People on the street are interviewed and asked their opinion on the new Apple watch, and they love it. The hilarious part? The watch is not an Apple watch, but a twenty dollar Casio!

While jokes at other people's expense are a hoot, the video really drove another message home for me. Occasionally I see guys donning a fancy watch as some sort of odd status symbol, but for the most part, we aren’t using watches anymore. Even when I wear my watch (which is rare) I always catch myself checking my phone for the time when it’s right there on my wrist. Who needs a watch when you have a phone that tells you the time and more?

Apple logic says, “here’s a watch that does everything your phone does, because we know you needed that.” No I don’t Apple, you made my watch obsolete almost a decade ago and now you want me to go back to putting one on my wrist? No, you don’t get to do that to me Apple, you don’t own my life. Am I the only person who thinks this is the worst idea in the world?

You know what I can do with my smart phone now? I can put a protective case around it and protect my investment. You want to know how many scuff marks are on the watch I’ve worn maybe 6 times in the past two years? Numerous. I can’t imagine the cow I would have if my brand spanking new 200 dollar Apple watch collided with the edge of a door, but it wouldn’t be pretty.

Sure it would be ballin to live out a Star Trek fantasy and talk to people via your wrist, but it would also be a pain in the ass to have a private conversation with said person. Well I guess I could use headphones right? Sure but if you are going to go to that much trouble and purchase an accessory for a device so that it functions the way you want it to, it’s probably not a good product to begin with. Just saying Apple fanboys.
