The video for Lady Gaga's latest single "Yoü and I" was supposed to premiere on MTV this Thursday, but the singe herself has leaked it via her Twitter account. While the song itself is one of the more traditional sounding efforts she's put out-- no autotune, no funky dance tracks, a strong emphasis on guitar and drums-- the video is one of the strangest, featuring Gaga in multiple guises as Yuyi the mermaid, the greaser Jo Calderone, and several incarnations of what appears to be herself, including a blond farmgirl dancing in a cornfield, a blue-haired dancer in bondage gear, and a black-wearing glamourous walking far, far too far in some unreasonable shoes. I have no hope of explaining it well, so you'll have to take a look for yourself.

The song itself isn't likely to be another one of Gaga's dance hall hits, but the surreal and almost scary video will probably make up for it--it's rare to see anyone putting this kind of cash and effort into a music video, but Gaga and her team know that every time she puts on a wild new costume, we'll all pay attention. I dare one of you to wear the giant hat/black veil getup for Halloween this year. Although Gaga emphasized that you can't just embrace one part of her; with the link to the video she tweeted, "You must love all + every part of me, as must I, for this complex + incomprehensible force to be true." I'm guessing that means you've got to accept both her mermaid self and farmgirl self, not to mention the Gaga that makes dance hits like "Poker Face" along with this kind of rock anthem. Like all the great artists who came before her, Gaga contains multitudes.
