With time and disposable income, celebrities get up to some strange pursuits. Often, these asides are irritating because most people aren’t good at multiple things. I might like to watch James Franco act, but that doesn’t mean I like it when he tries to sell me invisible art. This line between hobby and waste of time can often be sketchy, but now and again, a celebrity takes on a side project that feels completely right. This is one of those cases.

Tim Burton has announced he’s designing a float for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with its own character backstory. Dubbed B Boy, the sad flying object was stitched together with the fragments of deflated balloons left behind at children’s birthday parties at a hospital. He always dreamed of pleasing children like the other balloons, but because of his rough exterior and jagged teeth, he was kept away from the kids. Now, thanks to Burton, he’s been given a second chance and will soar high above New York on Turkey Day.

Leave it to Tim Burton to go to the darkest possible place to celebrate Thanksgiving, but I must admit, I do like the idea of having a full history to go with a parade float. It adds some meaning and should help it shine through the monotony of seeing so many blown up characters in a row. I can’t wait to see Burton’s creation join the other floats. What do you think? Are you excited enough about this to watch the Macy’s Day Parade? Sound off by voting in the poll below…
