Brad Pitt is normally a pretty popular guy. He took a media beating for a brief spell after leaving Jennifer Aniston, but on the whole, he’s bounced back pretty well. I suspect it’s because he mostly took the insults and negative comments without firing back, almost as if he was ashamed of his behavior and regretful of what happened. The American public is typically very quick to forgive people when they show the proper respect for their mistakes. Unfortunately, out of nowhere earlier this week, Brad Pitt did a complete one eighty and made some seemingly offensive comments to Parade Magazine for no apparent reason about his life with Jennifer Aniston. Here’s an excerpt…
“I spent the ‘90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony. I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t."

I’ll be the first to admit the backlash about the above statement was probably a bit excessive. For almost a full two days, Pitt was getting torn apart on Twitter and in various tabloids about his insensitivity. He didn’t deserve such a harsh rebuke, but he did deserve some serious doubletakes. I get what he was trying to say, that his marriage wasn’t as perfect to him as it was to the outside world, but by all accounts, Jennifer Aniston was completely blindsided by the implosion of their union. She deserves a little tact.

Pitt himself apparently agrees because he released a statement trying to clarify his comments. According to CBS, the press release said, "The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself, and that, I am responsible for." In many ways, it’s a well said clarification, but seeing as how it stops short of apologizing, it’s unlikely to please many of Aniston’s biggest supporters.
