Earlier this year, TLC premiered the reality show All-American Muslim to little fanfare. About one million people watched each week as the show followed the daily lives of Muslims living in the United States. At some point, the Florida Family Association decided this peachy portrayal might keep Americans from appreciating the real threat of Islamic radicalism and engineered an aggressive letter-writing campaign to convince the advertisers to put their money elsewhere. These efforts worked on Lowe’s who abandoned ship, causing many observers to accuse the company of hatefulness and racism.

A strong case could be made based on its decision to bailout that Lowe’s actively chose hatefulness and racism, but in all honesty, a stronger case could be made that the company actively promoted something else: pussy-ism. One look at the statement its executives offered to the press seems to support that claim. Take a look at the carefully-worded message below…
“Individuals and groups have strong political and societal views on this topic, and this program became a lightning rod for many of those views. As a result, we did pull our advertising. We believe it is best to respectfully defer to communities, individuals and groups to discuss and consider such issues of importance.”

Here’s how I’d translate that statement into plain English: We didn’t think it was any big deal to advertise on All-American Muslim, but now that it clearly is, we don’t want any part of this shit. As a result, we’re backing away to let others fight it out.

As a company free to spend its advertising dollars where it pleases, Lowe’s has every right to support or not support All-American Muslim. What the company doesn’t have the right to do, however, is claim it has somehow refused to make a decision on a controversial issue. By pulling its scheduled ads, the company did make a decision, and it’s incredibly asinine and insulting to everyone for its executives to act like Lowe’s stayed out of the fray. It didn’t. It choose against All-American Muslim. Remind you of anything else that’s happened lately?

Last week on X Factor, Nicole Scherzinger was forced to choose between Rachel Crowe and Marcus Canty. If she chose to send the former home, the judges would be tied two-to-two and whoever received less votes from America would automatically be axed. If she chose to send Marcus home, it would three-to-one, and he would be given his walking papers. Instead of manning up and actually making a decision, she voted Rachel off so American could make the decision for her. Sounds great, right? Wrong. By leaving it in the hands of America, she did vote. In her own pussy way, she voted against Rachel Crowe; so, it’s only fitting that the little girl was the one that went home.

Does Lowe’s actually have a racist agenda? It’s possible, but I tend to think otherwise. Is Lowe’s run by a bunch of pussies willing to run at the first sign of trouble? You bet your ass. Those executives can claim they left it up to “communities, individuals and groups” all they want, but that doesn’t make it the truth.

Make a decision and stand by it.
