From filmmaker Tyler Perry, Lionsgate's romantic drama, Good Deeds, tells the story of Wesley Deeds (Perry), a successful, soon-to-be-married businessman who begins to question his predictable life when he offers help to – and eventually falls in love with – a down-on-her-luck single mother struggling to make ends meet.
It was a military thriller that took top honors this weekend, leading yet another strong February weekend. Act of Valor debuted at number one with over $24 million, bringing in double its reported $12 million production cost. Even more impressive, the movie has no big names to attract audiences, but it managed to handily outperform several movies that did.
Realistic war movie Act of Valor is looking to be #1 for the weekend, bringing in $9.4 million on Friday and on track for $27 million for the weekend. It made a third more than its nearest competition, Tyler Perry's Good Deeds, which is on track for a $17.5 million weekend-- pretty small, even for a Tyler Perry movie without Madea
