Sydney Sweeney is pretty fearless in a lot of ways. She’s sporty, she works on her own cars (Broncos specifically), her Euphoria Season 3 plotlines were not for the faint of heart. Oh yeah, and she dove into the producing realm to take more control over the projects she’s in. Now, she’s taking a move from Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible book and walking on the wings of airplanes… for a fun date with Scooter Braun?

We know Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun have spent a lot of time together this summer. He visited her down under when she was filming Gundam. She came back to the States so she could be one of the celebs to watch New York's beloved Knicks win the NBA championship. Now they are getting into their plane stunt era, and she is specifically calling out Cruise. Take a look.

Yeah, this is like a safer, strapped in version of Tom Cruise crawling around the outside of the plane in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. Still, I’m not sure I would have the stones to commit to getting out there on the outside of a plane like the actress does. Maybe more action-adventure movies are in her future? She seems up for the task, considering the fact that earlier this summer she also posted about flying in helicopters, bungee jumping off a very high platform, racing go-karts and riding around in a very fast boat. Clearly, she's up for an adrenaline rush.

I thought she was out there just trying her hand at stunt work for giggles, but later in the week she confirmed this was for yet another date day with Scooter Braun.

Rumors that the celebrity couple were an item started swirling in 2025, but Scooter Braun didn’t actively open up about the “extraordinary woman” he’s been dating until May of this year. As noted prior, over the summer, they amped things up a notch with many destination adventures, including this plane-oriented date. Here’s the plane with Scooter on top of it.

I'm interested in all of this high-octane content, because it kind of gives us an idea of what the actress is capable of as we approach the release of her high-profile upcoming Netflix movie. Gundam's being described as a science fiction space adventure with an action bent, and it's based on a Japanese anime franchise with a built-in fanbase. It's been coming together for what feels like forever, and it looks like Sweeney has the adventurous spirit for the role.

It's been a rough week for celebrity deaths. Just one day after Dolly Parton's death was announced, it was revealed that the iconic Tim Curry also died at 80. Generations of fans have been mourning these losses, and for the latter, that includes the Rocky Horror Picture Show community, which is a thriving one based around the cult classic movie. In fact, The Rocky Horror Show is currently on Broadway, and Luke Evans penned a sweet letter to Curry from one Frank-N-Furter to another.

Luke Evans rocked his fishnets and heels as Frank in The Rocky Horror Show, earning a Tony nomination in the process. While he recently ended his tenure in the role, he returned last night to do a tribute to Tim Curry. He also took to Instagram to pay his respects and reveal that he recently wrote a letter to the OG Frank. In his words:

After this, he included the long letter he wrote Tim Curry, where he gushed about his legacy from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He was the blueprint for Frank-N-Furter after all, with plenty of folks emulating his performance on stage and during those iconic Rocky Horror midnight screenings. Evans had the added pressure of doing the role on Broadway, and having seen it myself, I loved the way he honored the OG while also having an original take. The letter is a long one, but it includes sentiments like:

The letter in Evans' post is just one example of how much the late actor's work means to people... especially that wholly original take on Frank. The Nine Perfect Strangers actor ended his post with the following touching message. It reads:

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a cultural milestone, with the cult classic remaining wildly popular in the decades since its 1975 release. Although it's not the only beloved Tim Curry movie that folks have been re-watching since his death. Others include Clue, Home Alone 2, Annie, and Muppet Treasure Island.

Spooky season will be upon us before we know it, and it's kicking off in a big way with the upcoming release of Practical Magic 2. Fans of the original movie (which is streaming with an HBO Max subscription) are finally getting the chance to catch up with the Owens witches, and Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have been attending various premieres. Although the latter Oscar-winning actress' dress at the European premiere is something I've never seen before.

Practical Magic 2's Joey King has been rocking some A+ fashion, but so has her onscreen aunt. At the recent European premiere, Nicole Kidman wore a custom Chanel gown with gorgeous accents at the top that make the need for accessories non-existent. Check it out below as she posed with Bullock:

I'm sorry, but this gown is pretty magical. With all due respect to Sandra Bullock's beautiful look, I can't take my eyes off Nicole Kidman in this photo thanks to the stunning custom Chanel dress that she's rocking. Specifically, the strands of pearls and gold chains that are draped around the bodice. And I can only imagine how sparkly and beautiful it looked for those lucky enough to see the ensemble in person.

Nicole Kidman let the dress do the talking at the Practical Magic 2 premiere, with her hair simple and straight. Accessory-wise, she's wearing just a watch, as well as some small gold earrings that perfectly match the beading around her dress. Talk about a fashion icon.

Practical Magic 2 wrapped production in September of 2025, and it's releasing almost exactly one year later. And while original actresses Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Artrip were recast as Sally's daughters Kylie and Antonia, there is still a ton of excitement about this long-awaited sequel. After all, it's a project nearly 30 years in the making.

What we know about Practical Magic 2 has been limited, but it looks like the story is one that'll span three generations of the Owens women. Because when Sally's daughter Kylie starts falling in love and developing her own magical abilities, the curse that haunts the family comes back to life. Interestingly enough, the movie will also see them changing locations, traveling from their iconic home in Massachusetts to the United Kingdom. And I can't wait to see what goes down, and (of course) those iconic midnight margaritas.

Luckily for generations of Practical Magic fans, the wait for the sequel is nearly over. And if Nicole Kidman keeps rocking amazing fashions while promoting the movie, I have to assume that even more eyes will be on the project.

Practical Magic 2 will hit theaters on September 10th as part of the 2026 movie release list. Fingers crossed that all the beloved returning characters survive their next magical adventure.

There are just some movies that I'll never grow tired of watching, and The Princess Bride is one of them. Between its outstanding cast, the best quotes from the movie, the beautiful score, and more, The Princess Bride has everything. So for this week's movie quiz, I decided to dedicate every clue to the 1989 movie. If you've seen it enough times, you should be able to solve every question.

We’ve been slowly getting teases about Shawn Levy’s take on the Star Wars franchise, from the reveal of Gosling’s character (Kade Auberon) to a first look at him on set. However, the ‘80s movie that inspired Star Wars: Starfighter was not one I could have predicted.

I am so on board, however, as it tends to go every time I learn something new about the upcoming Star Wars movies. But nothing has me more ready to jump back into a galaxy far far away than discovering the inspiration for Starfighter is one of my favorite movies (and books). Levy shares with Zuri Hall, from Fandango, about the Brat Pack movie that inspired both him and Gosling. He states:

The book authored by S.E. Hinton is one of my favorites. Both it and its famed adaptation explore the classism between the ‘greasers’ and the ‘socs’ which find the boys from the wrong side of the tracks beat down by society. But the story also explores themes of found family, friendship, and sacrifice. I would have never put The Outsiders and Star Wars together, but now I can’t unseen how perfectly the two blend together.

I just hope that Starfighter doesn’t have the same tragic outcome. But now the jacket presented to Gosling at Disney’s D23 has new meaning. The distressed skull and crossbones (serving as a nod to the Rebel Alliance’s Starbird logo) could easily be as symbolic as Ponyboy and his friends’ aesthetic in The Outsiders. And this seems to be the vibe that Levy was going for, as he explains:

This idea also weaves into the “car culture” that the Free Guy director says inspired the new movie’s “brand new fleet of craft.” The way they’ve been teasing this movie has me hopeful, especially after writer Jonathan Tropper’s take on its comparisons to the Skywalker saga. We can expect something new and original. Much like how A New Hope was for audiences in the ‘70s, I’m hoping this movie will be a breath of fresh franchise air that will reignite our love for Star Wars.

Starfighter truly sounds like the “perfect director playground” as it will explore new characters, new droids, and won’t be reliant on grandiose history. People are predicting this could be an even bigger film than The Mandalorian and Grogu. This standalone movie is the franchise’s “chance to do something fresh and original,” and with its Gosling leading power, I have complete confidence I’m going to love it.

Knowing The Outsiders is a key inspiration for the movie only has me more impatient for it's May 2027 release.

To say that Project Hail Mary is a satisfying movie is an understatement. It's likely to hold a spot among the best movies on the 2026 movie schedule. And the fact that it's a satisfying book-to-screen adaptation is kind of a miracle, given how much I love the book. All of that said, for as much as I love the movie and for as many times as I've watched it, there are plenty of questions I've been wondering about, and I finally found answers to a few of them.

Following the Blu-ray release of Project Hail Mary, I sat down and rewatched the movie, this time with the audio commentary featuring directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. I love a commentary that really dives into the decisions made throughout the making of the movie, and in that respect, Lord and Miller's commentary doesn't disappoint. So let's get into three of the questions I've been sitting on since I first saw the movie, which were answered throughout the commentary...

Who Wrote 'Good Luck!' On Ryland Grace's Sleeping Bag?

In the very first scene in the film, as Grace is coming out of his coma and regaining control of his faculties, "Armando" (the robot arm that assists Grace) tugs the sleeping bag off of him and sets it down. We get a quick glimpse of the words "Good luck!" written in black marker on the bag.

The first time I saw the movie, I thought maybe there would be a callback to that later – that we'd see who wrote it; however, that was not the case. Lord clarified the source of the writing, and it apparently came from the astronauts on the International Space Station:

Before learning this, I'd guessed that maybe it was Stratt or Carl, but apparently not. Presumably, Grace, Yao and Ilyukhina made a pit stop at the ISS before embarking on their years-long flight. I don't recall the ISS being referenced in the movie, but it makes sense that the interstellar ship would be docked there. Of course, Grace wouldn't have any memory of that, as he was likely unconscious for the whole transfer process.

What Exactly Are The Golden Plaques On The Walls Of The Hail Mary?

Also near the start of the film, we see a bedraggled Grace shuffling around the ship and stopping to look at the engraved metal plates set on the walls of one area. It's clear they tell a story through the images, and seem to depict the advancements of man, from walking upright to traveling to space. I got the general idea of why they were there, but still wondered if there was more to it than that, and Lord and Miller provided some clarity:

Chris Miller: "This room, we call the room of golden records. The idea was, there's all these golden placards about Earth and..."

Phil Lord: "In case this is the last record of the planet, if the mission were to fail, this ship would be an ark by which to understand society. And we thought it would be full of culture and art, this ship..."

Given that the Hail Mary was on a one-way mission and a last-ditch effort to save Earth, the director's explanation for the plaques really drives home just how dire the situation was. Should the mission fail, these plaques (and Grace's laptop) would've provided a record of humanity -- perhaps the only one left. Should Earth not survive the onslaught of astrophage attacking its sun, at the very least, maybe some lifeforms will discover the Hail Mary someday and learn of man's existence.

The scene itself also served a special purpose, as it snapped Grace out of his funk and got him into mission mode. It also got him to shave the beard, according to Miller:

Remembering you're humanity's last hope would certainly be a good way to kickstart the work that needs to be done (and shave the beard).

How Much Older Is Stratt When We See Her At The End Of The Movie?

One of my favorite moments from Project Hail Mary is a scene we didn't – and couldn't – get in the book, and I'm so grateful the directors included it in the movie. Seeing Stratt receive the contents of the Beetles years after she sent an unwilling Grace off to save the world is such a lovely payoff, and part of what makes the film's ending so great. I already knew the answer to the question of what Stratt's tattoo means, but what about her age? Just how many years had passed since Grace left Earth?

It's clear when we see Stratt on a boat in a freezing ocean that she's aged a bit. In fact, she's aged over two decades. Lord and Miller address that in the commentary, noting that it's likely she's 25 or 26 years older. It took 13 years for Grace to get to Tau Ceti, and then 12-13 years for the beetles to arrive back to Earth with their cargo. They suggested that the beetles might've been able to move a bit faster than the Hail Mary.

It isn't just Stratt's age that I think about when watching this scene; it's really about the wait. She had to wait close to three decades to find out if all of the work she and so many others put in amounted to anything. They wouldn't have even known if any of the astronauts survived the trip, let alone found a solution for the astrophage. What must it have felt like for Stratt to receive the contents of the Beetles?

Stratt never struck me as the kind of person to jump for joy at good news, so the sight of her satisfied, closed-mouth smile in response to Grace's video–knowing he survived and figured out a solution, just as she knew he would–is probably as ecstatic as she gets. And once the moment passes, it's time to get to work.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise couldn’t be in a better place these days. Its latest movie, Brand New Day, has become the highest-grossing 2026 movie release in the world, and fans love it, too! But, there was a time when Sony was having Spidey troubles, and sadly Shailene Woodley’s cut role as Mary Jane Watson was a casualty. The actress just talked about what happened exactly with her Amazing Spider-Man past.

If you were following along with The Amazing Spider-Man movies back in the early 2010s, you probably know Woodley was cast as Mary Jane Watson. She was even seen on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (red hair and all) filming a scene with Andrew Garfield. But, it never made it to the big screen. Here’s how things went down, per Woodley:

Whoa, three scenes! That’s rather sizable. Woodley reflected on the Spider-Man role that got away during a career retrospective with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. As she added:

Woodley was 21 years old at the time, and had recently had awards buzz for her role in The Descendants with George Clooney. The movie earned her a meeting with The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, which led to her booking the role of MJ. However, ultimately, it was apparently decided that they wouldn’t introduce Peter Parker’s new love interest so soon after Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy dies in TASM2 until the planned third movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 left a lot of unresolved things, which never had the chance to be explored. Sony scrapped The Amazing Spider-Man 3 back in February 2015. A few months later, Tom Holland was cast as Spider-Man and the character joined the MCU. Woodley also said this about her cut role:

Based on what we know about the fall of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man and the rise of Tom Holland’s version had very little to do with the actors part of them. At the time, Sony initially hoped to launch an expanded universe to compete with the MCU that involved Spider-Man spinoff films. After TASM2 wasn’t well received, it instead led to a deal between Sony and Marvel Studios.

Ultimately, Andrew Garfield had the chance to return to the role of Spider-Man for 2021’s No Way Home alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. As for Shailene Woodley, Mary Jane Watson role, we’ll always wonder what that could have been like. Where’s the justice for her?

Did you know there are two Taylor Lautners, and they are married to each other? When the Twilight star met his wife, she was Taylor Dome, but when the couple tied the knot in November 2022, they started legally rocking the same name. And how the heck?

Once, Taylor Lautner (the actor) was asked if it gets annoying to now share the same name with his wife. Here’s what he had to say:

Lautner explained what it’s like on the Great Guys podcast. And, yeah, this makes sense. Apparently they differentiate themselves with friends and family by going by Boy Tay and Girl Tay, but that doesn’t work with mail. I wonder if the fact that they have middle names helps at all? The Twilight star’s is reportedly Daniel, and his wife’s is Renee. But then the former teen idol also pointed this out:

Two Taylor Lautners does kind of seem suspicious, doesn’t it? As he shared in this story, sometimes officials simply don’t believe that they would have the same name, and they’ve had to stop and explain before.

Funny enough, his wife isn’t even the first Taylor he’s been with before. He famously dated Taylor Swift for a couple of months back in 2009. A few years ago, Swift actually asked him to be in her music video for “I Can See You”. His wife (who’s a big Swiftie) ended up going to the set with him, and they recreated the Spider-Man pointing meme between the three of them.

These days, the Taylor Lautners are expecting their first child together, and of course the joke that’s been going around is whether they’ll also name their baby girl Taylor. I’m going to guess they will stop at two Taylors. But can you imagine? Check out the couple at their baby shower earlier this month:

The Taylors met thanks to the actor's sister, who set her brother up after meeting Girl Tay at church. The couple went public with their relationship back in 2018, and boy Lautner proposed to her back in November 2021 before they got married a year later.

While she was a registered nurse when they met, she’s since pivoted to work in digital media full-time. Currently, both Lautners host a podcast together called The Squeeze, which focuses on topics of mental health and wellness. Girl Tay has recently been openly sharing her pregnancy journey on the podcast as well.

Hey, at least their kid won’t be confused. To her, they’ll simply be mom and dad!

Though the superhero movie rumor mill may be currently inundated with hearsay about Avengers: Doomsday ahead of the 2026 film’s release date, there is more than enough Man of Tomorrow speculation about the cast and more to go around , and I’m sure those conversations will only become more prominent as the months pass. As such, it’s always a plus when director James Gunn gives fans updates directly from the set.

Case in point: Gunn dropped quite the doozy by revealing that principal photography has now concluded for the Superman sequel, which kicked off production in April. That’ll allow for nearly a full year of pre-production and additional filming ahead of the upcoming DC movie’s release date of July 9, 2027, and is definitely worth celebrating for the cast, crew and fandom. I only wish I had a setting as gorgeous as they did to engage in such celebrating, as seen in the theory-sparking post seen below.

Nothing like a dip in some lovely waters to de-Lex Luthorize yourself. Or at least that's what I read in a book somewhere, as I'm not Lex Luthor myself. [Whistles menacingly...I mean innocently.] But wait! Is this really just an innocent look at the film's co-star cooling off, or could it possibly be a clue for the end of the entire movie?

I know, I know. It's probably the former. But here to make the case for the latter point is The James Gunn Instagram Post Comment Section. (Available to perform at weddings and other events.) Quite a few people chimed in with questions, assumptions and confident declarations that the filmmaker's pics imply that Man of Tomorrow will end with Lex Luthor being sent(enced) to the Salvation prison dimension that Peacemaker Season 2 ended on.

Could this location surrounding Gunn and his all-star crew potentially be one where Salvation-set scenes were filmed? Sure, in that it's outside in lush nature and not in the concrete jungle of Metropolis or the desolate cold surrounding the Fortress of Solitude. But it could also...just be somewhere outdoors on Earth. There's plenty of that kind of thing here, after all.

Also, I guess James Gunn could have filmed the last shot of the movie on the last day of production, and then felt safe enough to share that exact location with his social media followers, despite all of his efforts to keep spoilers as limited as possible. But is that really the most likely way that things went?

Even if this location is filmed to be Salvation in Man of Tomorrow, I highly doubt that the movie will end with Lex being sent there, if only because I don't for a second think that Gunn would show us anything this early that could realistically lead to such presumptions. So if I have to make an argument for the Salvation comments, I'd rather hope to see Lex and others show up on the pocket planet to find Peacemaker and bring him into the fight against Brainiac.

If Lanterns' John Stewart is in the mix, and also maybe possibly Blue Beetle, I don't see why John Cena's skull-crushing vigilante should be left out.

To lean even more into the conspiracy theory-ness of it all, look at the two DCU stars who commented on the post:

Both are Peacemaker stars, naturally. I don't want to go all-in on theorizing that one or more other stars from the show will be in Man of Tomorrow, but this would be a good starting point if I did. Or I guess Gunn's wife Jennifer Holland would be the best starting point. In any case, I still don't wanna.

Man of Tomorrow is set to join a bunch of other 2027 releases when it hits theaters on July 9.

One of my favorite things about the new A24 movie Tony is the ongoing gag involving Dominic Sessa’s Anthony Bourdain getting water dumped on his head every single morning by Antonio Banderas’s Chef. However, while it’s a fun moment in the project on the 2026 movie schedule, it was “kind of like prison torture” for Sessa when they filmed it.

For a bit more context, in the film, Tony sleeps in a hammock on Chef’s porch while staying in Provincetown. Every single morning, instead of using an alarm clock, the chef wakes his dishwasher up with a cold bucket of water. So, when CinemaBlend’s Hannah Saulic interviewed Sessa and the movie’s director Matt Johnson, she asked the actor it was harder to shuck an oyster or get “a million buckets of water dumped” on him. Here’s how the Tony star reacted to that:

Johnson was quick to note that it “wasn’t saltwater” being thrown on Sessa, which is what the “movie implies it was.” And I think that would be worse than just normal water. However, it was “irritating,” as The Holdovers star explained.

Now, why was it irritating? Well, the answer feels obvious. However, Johnson dove into the details of how exactly they went about filming this ongoing joke, and that made it clearer why they humorously compared this process to “prison torture”:

I have to say, watching Tony - which has gotten good reviews, by the way - I felt like both Tony and Dominic Sessa were shocked and annoyed by the water. The Now You See Me: Now You Don’t actor proved that to be true too by telling us:

Well, that sincerely does sound pretty awful, especially since it was repeated day after day, and it had to be done in a way where Sessa had to be surprised by it every time. However, I think it was well worth it, because the ongoing bit is truly one of the most delightful elements of Tony. Johnson believes that too, as he told us these scenes are “some of the best moments in the movie.”

While there are moments in Tony that are tearjerking and emotional, it is also genuinely funny. That’s thanks to bits like this water bucket one. Every time Tony was splashed with that water, I laughed. Plus, it helped shape the relationship between him and his boss, and it was one of the ways we got to see their friendship and mentorship evolve during the film.

Now, I’d love to know what Anthony Bourdain would have thought of all this. While we won’t know that, I’m happy Sessa suffered through the water, because this gag is so fun. To see it for yourself, you can catch Tony in theaters now.

Cinema lovers have several upcoming action movies to look forward to, and they sound epic. Among them is a new film starring Brad Pitt, which is called Heart of the Beast. Pitt is reuniting with director David Ayer -- known for movies like A Working Man and Suicide Squad -- for the survival movie, which I already think is going to emotionally devastate me. Much of the film is set against the backdrop of the great outdoors, and it seems the experience wasn't always easy for Pitt or Ayer.

Heart of the Beast sees army vet named James (Pitt) and his beloved military dog, Odin, stranded in the Alaskan wilderness. The duo must trek across nearly 60 miles of dangerous terrain to find their way back to safety. Pitt's time on set likely wasn't quite as treacherous as his character's journey, but it was still a lot When Ayer spoke to Empire, he discussed how his leading man, who he also worked with on Fury, threw himself into the work:

That sounds like a grueling experience, and that's not even all of it. Pitt, Ayer and the crew also filmed through a mix of extreme temperatures, water and a mountainous terrain. Of course, this isn’t the first intense role the actor has ever undertaken. Just think about his work in Fight Club, which returned to theaters earlier this year for one night. He's also taken roles that are mentally demanding, with 12 Monkeys (one of Pitt's signature performances) serving as a prime example of that.

Still, given what we know about Ayer’s past films, he expects a lot from his actors, so Pitt's experience on set probably shouldn't be too surprising. I’m expecting intense action and some dark, yet, relevant themes. Amid the suspense, though, is the relationship between James and Odin (who doesn't seem like a mean movie pet). Ayer also spoke about the importance of that bond and why it's so personal to him:

Prospective viewers may want to have their tissues handy when this 2026 movie release hits theaters on September 25. And I can't wait to check it out! David Ayer's reputation definitely precedes him, and I'm hoping his creative sensibilities mesh with Pitt's commitment to giving grounded performances.

It's fair to say that Brad Pitt has still got it and continues to pick up interesting roles. On that note, later this year, he'll be seen in the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. The David Fincher-helmed film will see Pitt reprise his role as Booth, and I hope he still gets some excellent action scenes as he did in OUATIH.

However, it feels like Heart of the Beast will be a bit less grandiose than that aforementioned sequel. Here's hoping that David Ayer's finished film is a thoughtful piece that offers up thrills as well as genuinely emotional moments. And, that aside, I'm hoping that Brad Pitt himself will do some press and share more insight into what it was like shooting in the wilderness.

The new Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping, is one of the upcoming book-to-screen adaptations that’s coming very soon. And while it will very much be Haymitch Abernathy’s story, there are a few nods to Katniss Everdeen and those OG stories to look forward to. In fact, I just learned about a new one.

The New Katniss Everdeen Connection In Sunrise On The Reaping

Sunrise on the Reaping takes place during the Second Quarter Quell. That puts the story about Haymitch Abernathy competing in the games 24 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute for The Hunger Games. But when the movie’s director, Francis Lawrence, talked about the film to Entertainment Weekly, he shared a new detail that connects this new story back to the original.

Now, during the 50th Hunger Games, the Capitol asks for twice as many tributes, which means we’ll meet four new tributes from District 12. And one of them is 13-year-old Louella McCoy. Per the director, when they were casting Louella, they made sure to find an actress who “sort of looks like young Katniss.” Spot the resemblance?

Louella McCoy is played by Molly McCann. She definitely looks a bit like a young Jennifer Lawrence, and those brunette braids are very reminiscent of the franchise’s first heroine. As Francis Lawrence also shared, the character is “emotionally important” to Haymitch’s journey in the film. He’ll even call her “sweetheart,” which he calls Katniss later on. I love this detail, but it’s not even the only nod to the iconic action character in Sunrise on the Reaping.

And, There's Even More To Note

The other connection you might notice in Sunrise on the Reaping is the return of the Mockingjay pin itself. Mckenna Grace’s character, Maysilee Donner, who’s the other girl District 12 tribute, is the first tribute to wear the pin. So, symbols of Katniss and what's to come are really going to be surrounding Haymitch!

Another thing to note is that it is actually rumored that Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen could show up in the movie alongside Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta Mellark. Back in December, The Hollywood Reporter said it was “confirmed” they’d make appearances. If you’ve read the book, you know exactly how this might fit in. It would be in a flash-forward scene that takes place after the events of The Hunger Games movies.

Aside from all these Katniss Everdeen connections, there’s plenty of other returning characters from the original movies, just in a younger capacity. Along with Joseph Zada playing a teenage Haymitch, you’ll see Elle Fanning’s Effie Trinket, Jesse Plemons’ Plutarch Heavensbee, Kieran Culkin’s Caesar Flickerman and Ralph Fiennes’ President Coriolanus Snow.

Sunrise on the Reaping arrives on the 2026 movie schedule during this upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. You can watch it in theaters starting November 20.

As we look forward to the cozy fall season, we can’t wait for Practical Magic 2 being part of the 2026 movie schedule. It’ll once again be about the Owens women, who also happen to be witches. And, this time around Joey King, the eldest daughter of Sandra Bullock’s Sally Owens has joined the cast. As the press tour continues, King is really repping some great witchy fashion, most recently with a sheer black number.

King is currently in London promoting the Practical Magic sequel, and was spotted in a gorgeous dress when she stopped by BBC Radio Studios on Wednesday. Check it out:

OK, this is the perfect Practical Magic method dress moment! She looks bewitching in a sheer black dress that has lace on the top and ruffles at the skirt. It comes from Ermanno Scervino’s resort 2027 collection. You’ve got to love how the middle allows her to show off her waistline, but the rest of it is all about the intricate lace work.

King paired it with Gianvito Rossi leather sandals and a Alexis Bittar wristlet bag. She also wore a few gold necklaces around her neck – one of which had a perfectly on-theme red crystal on it. The actress looks like she’s about to cast a spell, and do so while looking really good, too.

The 27-year-old opted for a black lace dress when she attended Teen Vogue Fest with her Practical Magic 2 sister Maisie Williams a few weeks ago. She also went for sheer black the first time she had a premiere for a movie she did with Nicole Kidman, Netflix’ A Family Affair. Hey, when it works, it works!

Practical Magic 2 comes nearly thirty years after the original movie with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, based on the book by Alice Hoffman. This time when Bullock and Kidman returned, they each produced the movie as well, and they reportedly have become even better friends since making it. Kidman has called the process of filming it “very safe” and sort of “insane”, given the original is not from this huge franchise. The movie wrapped production a year ago in London, and soon it’ll be in the hands of the audience.

King plays Kylie, who starts to develop her own magical abilities that perhaps get out of control. Maisie Williams plays her younger sister Antonia. Also in the cast is Xolo Maridueña as Kylie's love interest and Lee Pace reportedly as Sally’s love interest. It was directed by Bird Box’s Suzanne Bier from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett and Kelly Marcel. It’s based on Hoffman's 2021 Practical Magic sequel, The Book Of Magic.

You can check out Practical Magic 2 in theaters starting September 10. Until then, we can’t wait to see what other enchanting fashion the cast wears during the press tour.

Tom Holland's Peter Parker probably wasn't trying to become the world's biggest box office while trying to stop Sadie Sink's Jean Gray from mentally taking over New York City, but that's exactly what's been happening since Destin Daniel Cretton's Spider-Man; Brand New Day nearly hit $1 billion in its first week in theaters. It remained in the top spot the next week, as well as each week after that. And it looks like James Cameron's Titanic is the next box office king the webslinger will soon bypass.

First released in 1997 (and then later for limited theatrical rereleases), Titanic has been the lone pre-2000 holdout in the Top 10 highest global box office earners, with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace as the only other '90s movie in the Top 25. But the historical romantic drama will almost definitely get overtaken soon by Brand New Day, the second-fastest movie to reach $2 billion. Meaning the disaster flick will at last get ousted from its lofty spot in the Top 5. Here are the most current tracking totals:

As it's made clear, Brand New Day is the only 2026 movie release in the Top 10, though Christopher Nolan's billion-dollar baby The Odyssey is in the #19 slot. And unless a completely unpredictable and unexplainable dearth of Spidey ticket sales is suddenly reported all around the planet, the newest MCU movie could potentially slide up into the #5 spot sooner than you might think.

Check out this math: if we note Spider-Man: Brand New Day's earliest global release date as July 29, and divide its current grosses by the 28 days that have passed since, the movie is averaging a completely bonkers total of over $12.8 million per day.

As such, since it's less than $42 million behind Titanic, Brand New Day could take over that fifth position by the time the weekend gets here. To take it a step further, the movie would only need to earn $7-8 million more to usurp the #3 ranking from the Chinese blockbuster Ne Zha 2. It's still $700 million behind Avatar, though. I'm not saying that's an impossible feat or anything, but it may take another two or three weeks to get there.

The massive box office success isn't just a huge win for Marvel Studios and Disney. Tom Holland himself worked out a stellar deal for his fourth standalone Spidey movie, earning $20 million up front, with a backend agreement that likely puts his total earnings at north of $100 million, without a capped ceiling for said bonus.

Of course, I don't think anyone will be surprised if Titanic later falls down to #7 on the all-time Top 10 list after the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters in December. If any superhero movie can somehow steal the 2026 box office crown from Peter Parker, it'd be one fronted by Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom.

Massive spoilers ahead for Sunrise on the Reaping. If you haven't read the novel beware!

Every so often a young adult book series becomes a movie franchise, and dominates pop culture. The Hunger Games movies were definitely in that category, and Suzanne Collins had recently expanded the world of Panem with a pair of prequels. Following the release of Songbirds and Snakes, a new book to screen adaptation is coming with Sunrise on the Reaping. And the movie's star recently confirmed that the book's bloodiest death won't be included as written.

What we know about Sunrise on the Reaping depends on whether or not you read the source material, which is about Haymitch Abernathy's time in The Hunger Games. Actor Joseph Zada will play the role originated by Woody Harrelson, and during an interview with EW he let slip that one tribute's death was too gory to include in the film version. In his words:

Honestly, this is something we probably should have seen coming. All of the Hunger Games films are PG-13, despite being about a group of kids killing each other in a dystopian world. So showing a decapitated child is something that simply was never going to make it to the big screen. Although now I'm curious to see how the character in question will be killed off when Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters in November.

Fans who read Suzanne Collins' book will quickly clock that Zada is referencing the death of Wellie, a 12 year-old girl from District 6 who is reaping for the Quarter Quell. She ends up being the final Newcomer in the game alongside Haymitch, where he leaves her momentarily during the Game's final day to get some fire wood. When he returns he finds that she's been decapitated by the Career tribute Silka.

This is a truly devastating moment in Sunrise on the Reaping, and motivates Haymitch end up winning The Hunger Games. I'm sure that Wellie's death will still be heartbreaking, but we (thankfully) won't have to see Haymitch holding her decapitated head.

All will be revealed when Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on November 20th as part of the 2026 movie release list. Only time will tell exactly how Wellie will end up being killed in the film adaptation, but I'm sure it'll still be a tear-jerker without the added gore.

An actor with a truly unique and diverse filmography (and stage career), Tim Curry has made us hysterical with laughter, hysterical with fear, and gave us a lot to sing about in his 55+ year career. Unfortunely, the laughter, fear and melodies are going silent today, as Curry has passed away at the age of 80.

Arguably most celebrated for his dazzling performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the singalong midnight-movie classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry reportedly died late Tuesday night within his Los Angeles home. According to TMZ, police arrived at the home around 11:23 p.m., and reported him as dead. No foul play is suspected in regards to his death.

Curry has suffered a variety of medical issues for more than a decade, and has been largely out of the spotlight during that stretch. He suffered a major stroke back in July 2012, which required him to undergo brain surgery. Since that time, he required a wheelchair to move around, without full usage of his left leg, and with some memory issues.

Despite any and all ailments, Curry returned to the spotlight in recent years, briefly appearing as a killer in the 2024 horror movie Stream and sharing the stage with Rocky Horror co-stars for the film's 50th anniversary celebrations, even if he couldn't do all the singing and dancing. Curry also released his career-spanning memoir Vagabond in October 2025.

Curry is quite beloved amongst horror fans for being the first to bring Stephen King's otherworldly monster to life in IT, mainly as the dancing clown Pennywise. Curry's performance remains one of the most unsettling of any horror villain, and is regarded as the best thing about the 1990 miniseries adaptation. (He was even a fright to those on the set.)

Beyond those roles mentioned above, Tim Curry also helped attain his icon status with memorable roles in Muppet Treasure Island as Long John Silver, as Annie's Rooster Hannigan, as Clue's Wadsworth, as Home Alone 2: Lost in New York's put-upon hotel concierge Mr. Hector, as Scary Movie 2's Professor Oldman, and many others.

On the TV side, the English actor hosted Saturday Night Live a single time in 1981 (with fellow Rocky Horror actor Meat Loaf as the musical guest), and he's in one of the most memorable episodes of HBO's Tales from the Crypt. He also made appearances in Roseanne, Monk, Will and Grace, Psych, Criminal Minds and more.

That's only talking about live-action roles, also. The actor also worked on a ton of projects in a voiceover capacity, perhaps most memorably as Nigel Thornberry in Nickelodeon's The Wild Thornberrys. He also voiced Darth Sidious in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and appeared in fan-fave shows like Young Justice, Phineas and Ferb, Voltron: The Third Dimension, Gargoyles and Duckman, to name but a few.

In his lengthy career, Curry earned a Daytime Emmy Award for his work in the children's series Peter Pan and the Pirates, as well as a variety of nominations for Grammys, Emmys, Tonys and more. (Even a Razzie nomination for his performance in Congo.)

Earlier this year, Hayden Panettiere was on a book tour to promote her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, which dove into details about her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction as well as her relationship with her abusive ex-boyfriend Brian Hickerson, among other things. Now, following the death of Panettiere, details have emerged about the level of security that surrounded her during this book tour, and the extra steps taken to ensure Hickerson stayed away.

At a book tour stop in May at a Barnes & Noble in Manhattan, the store was reportedly told not to let Brian Hickerson into the event. That’s according to two people with direct knowledge of the tour who spoke to the NYT. Along with that, it was reported that Panettiere had private security with her who were specifically instructed to make sure her ex stayed away.

The Heroes actress wrote about her relationship with Hickerson in her book, which was released on May 19 this year, and she provided details about his violence against her. According to her memoir, they began arguing months into their relationship, and that eventually led to drunken attacks. He was arrested three times and did a stint in jail amid all this; however, their relationship remained on-again-off-again.

They met in 2018, and during that time, Panettiere had had her daughter and was struggling with postpartum depression. She then became dependent on drugs and alcohol. While she got treatment for addiction, she struggled to stay sober and eventually gave custody of her daughter to her ex-boyfriend Wladimir Klitschko.

Apparently, when Panettiere and Hickerson were together, she’d separate herself from others in her life. And it was reported that he was “a persistent source of conflict in the final year” of her life. Amid this, the actress was also dealing with pain that made it hard for her to walk, as well as addiction, agoraphobia and grief (her brother Jansen died in 2023 due to cardiomegaly and aortic valve complications).

Hickerson was arrested in 2020 on domestic violence charges and was sentenced to 45 days in jail, as well as probation and domestic violence classes. He violated his probation in 2022 when he and the actress were filmed in a brawl with other people in West Hollywood. After that, he filed for bankruptcy, listed his employer’s address as his ex’s home, and at some point worked as her assistant.

Now, Hickerson was present when Panettiere was pronounced dead, and he showed an officer a bag of her medications when police arrived on the scene. He and his brother Zach were listed as the people who called 911, they are not being accused of being involved and there were no signs of foul play.

The Remember the Titans actress went into cardiac arrest, and there is an investigation into an apparent drug overdose.

This all comes months after Panettiere said she had “more life to live.” While she hadn’t acted much since Nashville ended in 2018, she did return to it for Scream VI in 2023, and then did four movies between 2024 and 2026. It was reported that she had plans to keep acting and write a TV show too. She also released her book this year and did quite a bit of press for it.

Since her death, many of Panettiere’s friends, colleagues, and fans have paid tribute, and this included everyone from actors she worked with on Nashville to the director of Ice Princess. Meanwhile, the story surrounding her death and Brian Hickerson’s connection to it continues to develop.

Coming off the heels of semi-positively reviewed Gladiator II, I was particularly curious what Ridley Scott would do next and who would be involved. Then he signed on buzzy (and extremely tall) Hollywood star Jacob Elordi for his new apocalyptic movie The Dog Stars and my curiosity piqued. Unfortunately, it’s starting to sound like bad news for The Dog Stars, but perhaps less bad for Elordi himself? Let’s take a look.

The Dog Stars is coming from Disney, and wasn’t being screened particularly widely, so most of us at CinemaBlend haven’t seen the movie yet. A few critics have though, and reviews are decidedly mixed to outright unenthusiastic. It’s currently running at a paltry 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, but again, a lot of us haven’t had the chance to see the movie yet. At the time of this writing, there are fewer than 100 reviews.

My favorite review line, and the one that’s probably the most mixed in general, is this one from Matt Singer at ScreenCrush:

Lots of people are pointing out Ridley Scott’s latest is basically fine enough for a movie coming out in late August when there’s not a ton of box office competition, unless you’re counting leftovers like The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It’s low-key a really insulting thing to say about a movie from such a storied director, and Variety’s Guy Lodge really drives the point home.

That reads like a middling take at first glance, but upon deeper consideration, it’s actually brutal.

What’s Bad News For Ridley May Be Good News For Elordi

While there's still plenty of time for more reviews to come down the pipeline, and lot of people seem to generally think The Dog Stars is fine enough for what it is, what we have right now is a crowd that is generally unenthusiastic about where this movie is going at the box office. Despite this, some critics are resoundingly positive about Jacob Elordi.

This was true when the first trailer for The Dog Stars dropped and has remained true as people have begun seeing the new 2026 movie release. In fact, I was particularly enthusiastic seeing THR compare him to “a young Kevin Costner.” Like specifically Costner, not an actor like Costner, and specifically Costner in his heyday.

That’s a thumbs up for Elordi. And that outlet is not the only one that is positive. The Telegraph called him “gently dashing” and Roger Ebert’s site calls him “earnest.”

The New York Post had my favorite Elordi role comparison, nodding at Euphoria and Frankenstein before mentioning what these roles for the actor all have in common. He’s good though, guys!

Josh Brolin, who generally always does solid work, and is occasionally one of the biggest stars in the world, is getting some attaboys around the critical sphere, too. However, I had high hopes for Jacob Elordi in this role, and it’s nice to see many of the reviews spotlighting the young actor. It makes me feel like more cool things are on the horizon, whether or not The Dog Stars makes a splash. Anyone say James Bond?

It's an exciting time to be a fan of the Wizarding World. Because those who enjoy the Harry Potter movies and novels are looking forward to a new book to screen adaptation with the upcoming TV series on HBO (and streaming with a HBO Max subscription). But there's also exciting stage content, including the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. And fans are freaking out after it was announced that Rupert Grint will be following in Tom Felton's footsteps and reprising his signature role on the Great White Way.

The Harry Potter TV show will feature a new young cast of actors, but the OGs will always have a special place in our hearts. Tom Felton broke the internet when he returned as Draco in The Cursed Child on Broadway, and it was just announced that Grint will return as Ron in the same long-running production. The news broke with an exciting video on Instagram, check it out below:

No one expected Grint to return to Broadway in this way, and the fact that he'll be playing his signature role 8 times a week for the fans is absolutely thrilling. Folks quickly sounded off in the comments section, with some popular responses being:

Talk about a resounding response. Folks are hyped to see Grint back as Ron, but it's a bummer that Tom Felton's run as Draco will be over by the time he joins The Cursed Child's Broadway company. Some fans are hoping that Felton ends up staying, although he's already extended his run a number of times. Still, who wouldn't want to see these two Harry Potter stars reunited on stage?

This isn't the first time that Rupert Grint will be gracing the Broadway stage. Back in 2014 he appeared in It's Only A Play, alongside a killer cast that included Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally, and Stockard Channing. The Servant actor made his own post about playing Ron again, which was full of even more excited fans. Some additional response read:

With Grint being the second OG Harry Potter actor to reprise their role on Broadway, I have to assume that this will increase calls for the cast to return for the original cast to star in a Cursed Child movie. There's been no indication that the studio is going to make this happen, but it's a thrilling concept now that the actors are old enough to play adult version of their signature characters.

Rupert Grint will debut in The Cursed Child on February 2nd, with Tom Felton ending his run as Draco on January 3rd. As for the Harry Potter TV show, that'll debut December 25th on HBO as part of the 2026 TV schedule.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a well-oiled machine at this point, consistently treating folks to new content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. But while folks who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order have been treated to the shiny final product, actually making each upcoming Marvel movie is far more challenging. And The Russo Brothers recently got real about how difficult it is to please all of the A-listers involved in the Avengers movies.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is limited, but moviegoers are hyped that the Russos are once again behind the camera. During an interview with CBR about their work on Infinity War, Joe Russo spoke about a unique challenge to the crossover films: making sure that the cast is happy. In his words,

Honestly, I never thought of this. Since The Russo Brothers filmed Infinity War and Endgame back to back, I assumed that the biggest challenge was the mere scope of those movies, and the scheduling puzzle that it must be to get the cast together. But the directors are also careful to make sure that the starring cast feels good about their character's stories, and that the titles are fulfiling for the talent. Is anyone else's head spinning?

Luckily, The Russo Brothers are accomplished filmmakers who are behind some of the best Marvel movies of all time. While they bring spectacle and action to projects like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and their Avengers flicks, they're rooted in emotionally-driven stories. And I have to assume that's a big reason why the cast was able to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work.

Joe Russo's comments have me thinking about the size of the Avengers: Doomsday cast. If it's hard to make sure all the actors are happy, then it must have been even more challenging for their next blockbuster. After all, there are entire teams of heroes in the movie, namely the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and the OG stars of the X-Men movies. Add in the return of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, and that's a ton of characters to service and actors to keep happy.

Of course, The Russos have lots of goodwill from both the actors and Marvel fans thanks to their acclaimed work on the shared universe so far. Still, reading the above comments are sure to alter the way I Watch the new Avengers movies.

Despite It Ends With Us hitting theaters back in 2024, the book to screen adaptation continues to make headlines thanks to its stars' long legal battle. Blake Lively's complaint against Wayfarer Studios started a years-long conflict, and things have recently come to a head in court. And during the Gossip Girl star's recent testimony, she reportedly revealed how she got those leaked tests from Justin Baldoni about her. Let's break it all down.

This latest update comes to us from TMZ, which is reporting all the updates as the drama unfolds in court. During Blake Lively's deposition, she reportedly revealed that her friend Ashley Avignone told her about Baldoni's texts related to the It Ends With Us drama. Per Lively, Avignone knew publicist Stephanie Jones, who wanted to get in touch with the actress over Baldoni's alleged texts. Stephanie reportedly knew the publicist who was in the text thread with Baldoni.

In her testimony Blake Lively claimed that Jones allegedly told Avignone that she'd read the It Ends With Us director/star's texts, and they were the

Per her time on the stand, this is what inspired Stephanie Jones to get in contact with Blake Lively. Eventually the 39 year-old actress would subpoena the publicist for the aforementioned texts, which where then used in the legal battle surrounding It Ends With Us (which is streaming with a Hulu subscription).

The question of how Lively acquired Justin Baldoni's texts is one that has surrounding the ongoing legal battle for years, and now it seems that we finally have answers about how she acquired them. And this is likely not going to be the only bombshell to come out of the Green Lantern star's testimony.

Despite Lively and Baldoni settling and issuing a joint statement, the drama has not slowed down. They are now seemingly feuding over the cost of legal fees, with Lively requesting over $8 million from the actor/director. Now the two are finally facing off in court, which should make even more headlines related to their conflict... even if they settled before the trial began.

While the settlement looked like it might be the end of this legal saga, that clearly isn't the case. The conflict has lasted years, with Baldoni's defamation case naming both Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. They've both had legal wins and losses during this time, and things are once again heating up now that the It Ends With Us stars are finally meeting in court.

As previously mentioned, It Ends With Us is streaming now on Hulu for those who want to see the movie that started this long (and expensive) legal saga. Only time will tell how long the trial will last.

It's almost time. Avengers: Doomsday is coming on the heels of the wildly successful Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The upcoming Marvel movie will be the first movie to feature most of The Avengers since 2019's Avengers: Endgame, and it promises to be a star-studded affair.

Because this 39th installment of the long-running franchise of acclaimed superhero movies is finally bringing in one of the most feared villains in comic book history, Doctor Doom, Kevin Feige and his team are assembling a collection of heroes unlike anything the MCU has seen before. There are familiar faces, newcomers, and even a few people from other corners of the Marvel multiverse who have not been properly introduced into the MCU. Let’s get into who is avenging this time and what else we know about the upcoming superhero movie in the following guide to Avengers: Doomsday.

What Is The Avengers: Doomsday Release Date?

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.

That date coincides with the release of Dune: Part 3 on the same day of the 2026 movie schedule, and fans have taken to calling it "Dunesday." It's set up a perfect double feature for hardcore movie fans, though it's going to make for a long day, as it's expected both movies will have runtimes around the two-and-a-half-to-three-hour mark.

Avengers: Doomsday Trailer

After years of anticipation, an epic cast reveal, a brief appearance by Doom in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and a series of teasers featuring different characters, our first real look at Avengers: Doomsday came in July 2026 with the release of the first full trailer. Of course, it was talked about as much for what it didn't show as what it did.

What Avengers: Doomsday Is About

Here's basically what we know: Avengers: Doomsday will bring together superhero teams from across the multiverse who will converge in one place to battle Doctor Doom. For the first time, the biggest teams in the Marvel canon will be teaming up in the MCU, including The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, The New Avengers (or The Thunderbolts), and last but certainly not least, The X-Men.

Previously, the plot of the fifth Avengers film was intended to revolve around a different villain and was going to be called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors was dropped by Marvel in 2023 following high-profile legal troubles.

The Avengers: Doomsday Cast

As you would expect, the cast for Avengers: Doomsday is huge. The first announcement came way back in the summer of 2024 at San Diego Comic Con. The Hall H crowd erupted into a roar of excitement and confusion when it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU, but not as Iron Man. Instead, the Academy Award winner is the one putting the “doom” in Avengers: Doomsday by starring as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom.

In March of 2025, Marvel Studios revealed who would be taking on Doom with a live-streamed video on X, which is now available on YouTube, lasting more than five hours. Foldout chairs bearing the actors’ names were placed next to each other, one by one, every 15 minutes. In addition to established veterans of the franchise, the previewed ensemble also includes the stars of the yet-to-be-released Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, as well as a few who are making their MCU debuts but not their Marvel debuts, having previously starred in the live-action X-Men movies.

There are a few names you might be wondering about who aren't on that list. There are a few actors who have not been officially confirmed for Doomsday, but there is speculation that at least some of them will appear. This includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Also not on the list is Tom Holland as Spider-Man, and that's because it's very unclear if he'll be in Doomsday or only in the sequel, Avengers: Secret War. There is a lot of chatter that Tobey Maguire may appear as his version of Peter Park/Spider-Man in Doomsday.

Avengers: Secret Wars Is Coming December 17, 2027

Joe and Anthony Russo revealed to Omelete that, while Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were two halves of a finale to the MCU’s first saga, Avengers: Doomsday will be the first half of a new beginning for the franchise. Avengers: Secret Wars will drop on the 2027 movie schedule next December and will mark the end of Marvel Phase Six and the Multiverse Saga overall.

The sixth Avengers movie shares its name with the aforementioned comic book arc, which ran for 12 issues from 1984 to 1985, in which an omnipotent being called the Beyonder brings various heroes and villains (including Doctor Doom) to the planet Battleworld and pits them against each other like gladiators.

All of this was potentially hinted at in the post-credits scene on Spider-Man: Brand New Day and could explain why Tom Holland won't be in Doomsday, as his version of Spidey is now trapped on Battleworld.

Joe And Anthony Russo Are Directing Avengers: Doomsday

Some of the titles considered to be the absolute best Marvel Cinematic Universe movies include Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame – all of which are directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. The brotherly duo previously claimed they would be walking away from the franchise for good after their 2019 smash, but it looks like you should never say never. The Russos are directing both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which, according to Variety, was a top condition for Robert Downey Jr.’s return.

After most recently working with the Russos as the co-writer for their Netflix original movies, The Gray Man and The Electric State, Stephen McFeely is reteaming with them to pen Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. He had previously written several classic MCU movies, including Endgame, with his frequent partner, Christopher Markus, but this will be his first solo effort with the franchise. Loki creator Michael Waldron was previously serving as the screenwriter when Daniel Destin Cretton was still on board as the director.

What To Watch In Anticipation Of Doomsday

You still have plenty of time to catch up on or revisit all of the Marvel movies in order before Avengers: Doomsday is released if you are up for it. However, Disney and Marvel have also released a list of MCU shows and movies that they say are essential viewing, and thankfully, it's much shorter than diving into everything!

While there have been some left wondering why certain shows and movies were left out, and others are mad that more of what they watched seemingly isn't important to this installment, I am glad the list isn't too exhaustive. It's hard work keeping up with the MCU, but I'll keep doing it and making updates on this story as often as needed!

2026 has been a great year for book-to-screen adaptations, and the year's not over. Among the more anticipated titles set to arrive on the 2026 movie schedule is the film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's mega-popular romance book, The Love Hypothesis. Those with a Prime Video subscription will be able to watch it beginning September 23. With less than a month to wait, we now have a proper trailer for the movie!

Move over hockey romances (don't leave, please, just make some room, thanks!) because school's in session for this love story. I love a good fake-dating story, especially when both characters have reason to make it work, and all the right kinds of chemistry for love to flourish.

Per PolygonThe Love Hypothesis started out as Star Wars fanfic, which was written by Ali Hazelwood under the pen name "Ever-So-Reylo." As you might be able to surmise from the non de plume, the fanfic centered on Star Wars characters Rey and Kylo Ren.

As I'm sure you can tell from the trailer, The Love Hypothesis is not about Star Wars characters (it just started out that way). The story uses the fake-dating trope, and is centered on PhD student Olive and professor Dr. Adam Carlsen. Though their story starts out as a fake relationship things begin to get complicated, as fake relationships often do in these stories.

The book arrived in 2021 and currently holds a 4.09 rating (out of 5) on Good Reads. That number is made even more impressive when we factor in that the novel has over 2 million ratings. Prime Video's adaptation of The Love Hypothesis is directed by Claire Scanion, and stars Lili Reinhart as Olive, and Tom Bateman as Adam Carlsen. Rachel Marsh plays Olive's best friend Ann, while Nicholas Duvernay plays Jeremy, the guy Ahn falls for.

Based on the trailer, The Love Hypothesis looks like a must-watch for me. I'm also digging the use of the periodic table for the marketing. We saw a bit of it in the trailer, and there's even more of it in the poster. Check it out:

I think it’s telling that my first thought when I’d heard Dolly Parton had died at 80 was, “I wonder how Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are feeling?” The trio just had the one movie together in the 1980s, though we know for a fact they had a fondness for their time together. We know this because they reunited in 2022 for the final season of Grace & Frankie in which Tomlin and Fonda had starred, and Parton had cameoed. At that point they’d been in each others’ lives for more than 40 years.

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin famously met in the late seventies when the former showed up at the latter’s one woman comedy show. A couple of years later, Fonda reportedly recruited Dolly Parton for a glorious movie she'd envisioned for the big screen. That film was the female-fronted 9 to 5, a movie she’d dreamt up, but was later written and directed by Colin Higgins.

I wasn’t around in 1980 when the hijinks got off the ground, so I came to this comedy quite late. But all of the bonkers scenes surrounding the ladies’ boss Hart, the garage door restraint BDSM restraints, him getting knocked out as part of a potential murder plot, and especially the mix-up at the hospital stand out as top-notch comedy moments for me. The movie is so unexpected and so funny, and so of course when news of Dolly Parton’s passing broke, and Parton tributes started coming in waves, I wanted to hear what Tomlin and Fonda would say about it.

How The 9 To 5 Ladies Paid Tribute

Jane Fonda’s post was particularly lengthy, and I like that she touched on 9 to 5 and Dolly’s career before sharing one fun story that really embodied the “9 to 5” singer.

Fonda also specifically made a point to reach out to the LGBTQ+ community, who specifically were a large fanbase for the singer in her post.

Meanwhile, Lily Tomlin shared a picture of herself and Dolly, with the caption “no words,” and in the hours since, she’s reshared many moments with the singer over the years. Fans put up pictures from 9 to 5, which she reposted, and the actress also reshared Jamie Lee Curtis’ post, which simply read, “Thank you, Dolly, for all of it.”

Dolly Parton was courageous enough to be exactly the person she was at a time when being bold and brazen was neither encouraged nor treated with great empathy. She also wrote songs; she became a philanthropist; she even created her own dang theme park, and eventually landed a spot in the theme park hall of fame.

It's easy to remember the singer for all of these things, but she also had a hand in so many other surprising pop culture moments, like getting the Hannah Montana special to happen. Jeff Bezos once gave her $100 million dollars to help in her philanthropy efforts with kids and literacy. She even secretly helped out the Buffy The Vampire Slayer team acting as a producer so the show could get off the ground. Just a cool lady, and one who touched the lives of many -- not just during the hours of 9 to 5.

Christopher Nolan is thought of as one of the greatest filmmakers of the 21st century. He's told stories about superheroes, magicians and brilliant scientists and, more recently he dazzled audiences with The Odyssey. But, what sets him apart from his contemporaries? Well, there’s a Robert Pattinson story that Mia Goth told that speaks to one reason why Nolan is the GOAT.

The Odyssey has indisputably been one of the best 2026 movie releases. Not only is it another technical achievement for the director, it’s also recently become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. Cast member Mia Goth's Robert Pattinson story may indeed shed some light on why the filmmaker manages to get the best out of his collaborators:

Mia Goth played a disloyal maid to Penelope, Melantho, in The Odyssey. She recalled that one moment on set while speaking to British Vogue. Per the actress, during the movie's shoot she watched once as her co-star went up to Nolan and asked his director something about his performance. Rather than giving Pattinson the answer to his question, he communicated his trust to the actor, calling it his “department”.

It’s a great story, because too often we hear about a director’s notes to actors about how to play a scene. And sure, actors might need this in some cases but, sometimes, it’s perhaps important that they also own their abilities and make their own choices. Pattinson was hired by Nolan because he knew he could play the nasty role of Antinous to his liking, and the actor crushed it.

Pattinson and Nolan first worked together on Tenet. Their partnership came out of Nolan calling the actor to fly out to Los Angeles to meet him. The pair had a three-hour conversation, but Pattinson had no idea what it was for until the last couple minutes of the meeting. Interestingly, with Odyssey, Pattinson was the sprawling cast who actually asked Nolan to read the script before saying “yes.”

Aside from this anecdote, there’s plenty of other ways you could contrast Nolan sets from typical ones. He doesn’t allow cell phones on his sets, and you won't see many people sitting in chairs to keep the momentum of the shoot moving. He’s also very passionate about shooting on film and IMAX and tries his best to film as much of his movies as possible in-camera and practically, rather than relying on CGI.

This reputation has made Christopher Nolan one of the most respected filmmakers in Hollywood. No wonder there seems to be an influx of stories like this from great actors about why they love working with him.

The DCU is still in its infancy, with co-CEO James Gunn helping to craft a brand new shared universe for theaters (and streaming with a HBO Max subscription). The first slate of projects is titled Gods and Monsters, and there are tons of rumors swirling around upcoming DC movies and TV shows. Luckily Gunn recently debunked two of them, and I'm honestly so relieved by the news.

Gods and Monsters' announcement revealed that a ton of thrilling projects were in development, but some are coming together quicker than others. There were recently some discouraging reports about Viola Davis' Waller show, as well as Andy Muschietti's The Brave and The Bold aka the first Batman movie of the shared universe. Luckily Gunn has set the record straight.

James Gunn Debunked Rumors About Waller And The Brave And The Bold

The popularity of comic book characters means that there are tons of rumors and theories about that's coming down the line. There was chatter recently that the Waller TV show was being put on pause while Warner Bros.' possible merger with Paramount was worked out. Gunn was recently asked on Threads about the reports of various TV shows are being held, responding with:

Well, that was pretty cut and dry. Despite reports to the contrary, it sounds like Waller as well as other upcoming DC shows like Paradise Lost are not on hold. Instead they're developing as planned, although it's still unclear when we will actually see them on the small screen. But as someone who is a huge fan of Viola Davis' performances in both Suicide Squad movies and the first season of Peacemaker, I'm thrilled that we might get to see Amanda Waller finally take center stage in her own TV show.

Of course, Waller isn't the only title that James Gunn took to Threads to address. There was a report that Andy Muschietti's The Brave and The Bold movie was similarly put on hold until the possible merger was worked out between studios. Gunn similarly shut that chatter down, offering:

Excuse me while I let out a big sigh of relief. The Brave and The Bold is expected to introduce the DCU's version of Batman (and hopefully Robin as well). Moviegoers are hyped about The Dark Knight joining the newly formed shared universe, so it's heartening to hear that the blockbuster hasn't halted development after all.

Gunn previously admitted that we won't see the movie until after The Batman Part II hits theaters, so movieogers are going to have to continue practicing patience. Still, Andy Muschietti's The Brave and the Bold is still in active development, despite rumors to the contrary.

I'm invested in the DCU, so I'm thrilled that James Gunn's updates were so hopeful. Fingers crossed that both Waller and the Batman movie pick up the pace of their development.

The next DC movie hitting theaters is Clayface on October 23rd as part of the 2026 movie release list. On the small screen, Lanterns airs new episodes Sundays on HBO.

Few actors have had a career like Michael B. Jordan has, as he has accomplished quite a bit within the entertainment industry. Jordan started as a child actor and, after years of rising through the ranks in Hollywood, he now headlines massive movies. One of his most recent films – the critically acclaimed Sinners – even landed Jordan an Oscar. The fan-favorite star is certainly thriving as a performer, but I really think we need to take some time and admire how he’s thriving apart from his on-camera career.

Michael B. Jordan Is Proving Himself To Be A Talented Director

August is Black Business Month, so I thought this would be the perfect occasion to highlight the incredible trajectory Jordan has had, specifically his non-acting ventures. Over the past few years, what’s impressed me is the way in which he’s jumped into the director’s chair. The star made his directorial debut with 2023’s Creed III, the third installment in the Rocky spinoff franchise he’s headlined.

I was excited to see what Jordan would do with the threequel, and he definitely didn’t disappoint. Creed III received positive reviews, with much of that praise going towards the story, performances and of course, Jordan’s direction. Sure, he gives a great performance as Adonis Creed, but what really impressed me was the star’s desire to add his anime-inspired sensibilities to the boxing scenes (and shoot them with IMAX cameras). The film is a knockout, and Jordan can now take that momentum into his next directorial effort.

A legacy sequel was ambitious enough, but Jordan has since helmed and produced a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, which is set to hit theaters amid the 2027 movie schedule. Jordan is also set to play the titular billionaire/art thief and, based on the first Thomas Crown trailer, he’s cooked up a film that oozes intrigue, charm and sensuality. I’m hopeful that the movie will be another solid notch in Jordan’s belt and allow him the chance to direct even more down the road.

Producing Has Also Become A Part Of Michael B. Jordan’s Career

Jordan has also become a producer and, in 2016, he even founded his own production company, Outlier Society, in 2016. When it comes to movies, Jordan has produced films like Just Mercy, Without Remorse, A Journal for Jordan and Creed III. The producing work isn’t limited to the silver screen either, as the multihyphenate has also served as an executive producer on TV shows, from Raising Dion and David Makes Man to Gen: Lock and the upcoming Fourth Wing adaptation.

So I think it’s safe to say that Michael B. Jordan has his fingerprints on a growing list of Hollywood productions. If that weren’t enough, he’s also moved into sports ownership and has embarked on a few key ventures. He became a part-owner of the AFC Bournemouth English soccer club in 2022, and he has also invested in the Alpine F1 team. I have to wonder, where does this man find the time to manage all of these obligations?

In all seriousness, though, it’s awe-inspiring to see what Jordan has accomplished and at a relatively young age. Honestly, I’d be impressed with seeing just about anyone reach such heights, but watching a Black man do that in a historically unpredictable industry is particularly satisfying for me. He’s come a long way since The Wire and even his breakthrough movie role in Fruitvale Station, and I look forward to seeing what he does – both on and off screen – as his profile continues to rise.

And don’t worry, Jordan will surely continue to be an actor. Check him out when The Thomas Crown Affair opens on March 5, 2027, and he’s landed another big franchise with Miami Vice ‘85, which will be released in 2028.

Leave it to Stavros Halkias to start a trend on Letterboxd. Halkias, who co-stars in Tony as part of the 2026 movie schedule last weekend, left a cheeky review of the movie, and it’s all about himself. This isn’t the first time he’s done it, either. It seems the comedian and actor is making a habit of it, and I love it.

Halkias plays a line cook in Tony. He is one of the pirates that Anthony Bourdain wrote so positively about in Kitchen Confidential, though the character in the movie isn’t based on a real person, just someone like those “pirates” in the kitchen. He is, honestly, a sloppy mess in the movie (as line cooks sometimes are) but he’s a lovable sloppy mess. However, the way Halkias describes himself in the review isn’t the first word that comes to mind:

Charming? Sure, kinda. Funny? Absolutely. Chaotic? For sure. Sexy? Well…maybe if you think someone sweating in front of a hot oven who smells like cigarettes and steak, then sure. It’s not my thing, but I’m not here to yuck anyone’s yum. It’s also impossible not to giggle at Halkias’ simple review of the movie. And it’s also not the first time he’s done it. In his review for last year’s Bugonia, Halkias wrote:

It’s too early to call this a trend, and there are a few of Halkias’ movies he hasn’t reviewed. At least not yet, though his profile has never been higher... especially now with Tires Season 3 trending on Netflix. For those reasons, I hope this does become a trend. Halkias has two movies on the 2027 movie schedule: a Judd Apatow joint, The Comeback King, starring Glen Powell and Cristin Milioti, and Thumb with an all-star cast including Milly Alcock, Akwafina, and Kate McKinnon. Will he be the sexiest member of the cast in those movies too? I think the answer is obvious.

Anyone who has followed Halkias’ career won’t find this kind of cheeky behavior surprising. This is, after all, a comedian who rose to fame co-hosting a podcast called Cum Town. He’s also a fantastic self-promoter–and I mean that in the best way. His first comedy special was a real bootstrap kind of production that blew up on his YouTube channel first, and led to a second stand-up special, Stavros Halkias: Fat Rascal (which you can also watch with a Netflix subscription).

Now he’s getting great roles in great movies like Tony and Bugonia, and he’s slyly promoting himself yet again. He’s a master of getting his stuff to go viral in an understated way, and that is a real art. Along with a few other brief but funny reviews of movies he’s not in, his account is something I’m definitely going to keep my eye on for more. Who would have thought that Letterboxd reviews could go viral?

Nothing about Donnie Darko is normal or straightforward or easy, from its use of time travel to its more expository Director's Cut to the impactful-if-confusing ending for all the characters. Though Jake Gyllenhaal's titular hero...ish figure and his rabbit-eared hallucination have remained icons of cult cinema for 25 years now, Richard Kelly's attempts to craft a sequel went unrealized for years. But that all changed in the most massive of ways, as Kelly has an official sequel on the way, and plans much more.

As much as I'd love to giddily blurt out as many details at once as possible, it's probably easier for everyone else to understand if I lay Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko plans out sequentially.

Step 1. Donnie Darko's Story Will Continue In The Novel “The Philosophy of Time Travel"

Anyone who picks up The Philosophy of Time Travel expecting it to be a general pop-psych look at the sci-fi concept will no doubt be confused, because this is actually the title of the sequel novel that Richard Kelly has been working on for the past decade, and has been conceiving for far longer.

It sounds like a heady concept for a sequel to any movie, but I do love the idea that the events that Donnie witnessed within the tangent universe aren't necessarily reflective of what all the characters would do in other circumstances. As Kelly explained per Variety, everyone affected by the 28-day "collective dream" comes together as a community to figure out what happened, with something like a cult forming. In his words:

One of the movie's more memorable moments, at least to me, is the shot at the end where Mary McCormack's Rose shares a distantly familiar moment with Jena Malone's Gretchen, despite neither seemingly crossing paths much in the tangent-verse. Because it makes it clear to audiences that the characters are not only dealing with the aftermath individually, but also with wormhole-y connective tissues tethering certain people together.

Kelly also says that character who appear in minimal scenes will still get developed and expanded stories for the sequel novel. As much as I don't want to spend any more time with Seth Rogen's Ricky Danforth, it's interesting to think about him not being a total douchenozzle.

The novel's synopsis notes that there will be "official" government files and interview transcriptions in there, wuth Rose and Eddie getting invested in a "widening investigation that reaches from the Oval Office to the Mojave Desert," all while "FBI surveillance teams, FAA officials, USC professors, and a mysterious circle of trackers and financiers" attempt to solve the mystery behind the discovery of "celestial fluid" and Roberta Sparrow's seemingly prophetic book.

Step 2. An Animated/Motion-Capture Movie Covering The First Part Of The Sequel

It sounds like Richard Kelly's early sequel plans were more centered on the distant future, and that he only realized later that showing fans what played out right after the movie was key. But given the general impossibility of filming those events 25 years later without endless amounts of de-aging required for live-action, Kelly's plan is to utilize motion-capture and animation techniques to keep the same star-studded cast. Would the all return? That remains to be seen, but Kelly is optimistic, saying:

Even though the previously released sequel S. Darko brought back Samantha Darko actress Daveigh Chase, Kelly was not involved in the production at all, and presumably won't be keeping any of those events as canonical for his sequel. No complaints here, since that movie was a slog, and I'll be much more excited to see her share the screen anew with McCormack, Holmes Osborne, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Oh, right, we didn't get to that step yet.

Step 3. A Live-Action Movie Set 28 Years Later With The Original Cast (Hopefully)

Don't worry about Richard Kelly being infected by the Rage virus. He's not making any 28 Days Later sequels here; just Darko. To follow up on the animated direct sequel, the director and novelist wants to go live-action once the novel jumps into the future. (Which is still our past.) As he put it:

For all his optimism and belief that the movie's ever-growing fanbase justifies a return to this universe, Kelly says he hasn't actually talked to anyone from the cast yet about taking part in the movie sequels. He wants the novel's release to be its own proof of concept that bringing the band back together is a good idea. He said:

The "Nick Venable" part of that marketplace will be standing, book-in-hand, bellowing for all the original cast members to return. It feels a little weird to dive this hard back into Richard Kelly's creations after being duped in part by Southland Tales and The Box, but anything for Donnie Darko. Or for Frank, really. But I'm not supposed to tell anyone I've been seeing him...

News broke of Dolly Parton's death was revealed through a message from the Queen of Country's family on Tuesday morning. Since then, have been flooding on the internet, and we've compiled some of the most notable comments from fellow musicians and Hollywood actors (so far).

While we don't know the exact cause of Parton's death, we know the "Jolene" singer was recently dealing with health issues. As far as special acknowledgements go, we'll start with fellow country legend, Blake Shelton. Here's what he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the pair when they worked together on The Voice:

I can’t deny that I didn’t have high expectations when I first watched The Invite. I knew it had a very strong cast, but I just didn’t know much about the movie. It should have been an A24 movie on my must-watch list.

The Invite may end up being one of my favorite movies of 2026. It’s a hilarious comedy that's fun, thought-provoking, and entertaining all the way through.

Additionally, The Invite really made me think about perspective and how it shapes our lives.

The Invite Shows How Perspective Hurts And Helps These Characters

The Invite follows two couples. One has been married for years, and the other has only been together for a year. The new couple seems blissful, while the long-time couple seems miserable. This is somewhat the truth.

Both couples have moments of bliss and misery, but how they react to these moments makes the difference. Joe (Seth Rogen) takes out his life regrets on his family. Hawk (Edward Norton) used to be like Joe until he lost his wife and began living differently.

Hawk needed to go through that loss to find a new perspective. Joe may also need some dramatic change to make him appreciate his life. The end of The Invite turns into another sad breakup movie because Angela (Olivia Wilde) and Joe realize their relationship is over.

The ending is left a little open-ended, but the breakup or threat of it may be what Joe needs to approach his life with a new outlook.

The Different Life Views Make The Couples Interesting To Contrast

The characters are not that different on the surface. They’re around the same age, living in the same building, and have had some of the same life experiences.

The major difference between them is that they have different perspectives on their lives. Pina (Penelope Cruz) and Hawk seem so much happier than Joe and Angela because of how they approach their lives and their perspectives. Eventually, Hawk and Pina’’s free spirit rubs off on Joe and Angela.

Some of Hawk and Pina’s relationship problems come to the surface as they hang with Angela and Joe. This seems to confirm how similar the couples are, but their varying perspectives keep them in different emotional states. As long as Hawk and Pina remain positive about their life together, their relationship should thrive. The misery Angela and Joe share is destroying their relationship.

The Invite Ending Is Ambiguous, But That Also Plays Into The Idea Of Perspective, But With The Audience

The Invite has earned its positive reviews, and the care and consideration that went into this movie are apparent. The ending most of all confirms the film’s brilliance. It ends with Joe and Angela deciding to break up, but Joe finally goes back to his piano and starts playing again.

Angela joins him. The audience can come up with many interpretations of this final scene. Is it proof that they will try to work things out? Or just a quiet final moment between a couple? How you take this final scene probably goes back to what perspective you have on love, relationships, and these characters.

I took the ending in a positive way that maybe Joe can go back to music and change his negative outlook on life, and try to repair things with Angela. Others may see things a lot differently. That’s the beauty of perspective in this movie and life.

Tom Cruise has accumulated almost as many wholesome celebrity stories as he has stories about him risking his life for a stunt. There is the famous Christmas cake. Rosie O'Donnell says he has remembered her birthday for more than 25 years. He regularly uses social media to hype other filmmakers' movies and keep people going to theaters. I even recently learned that Millie Bobby Brown considers him a dear friend and has flown his helicopter. The guy apparently keeps a very interesting contact list. Still, Dakota Fanning's story may have all of those beat.

During a new appearance on Happy Sad Confused, the former child star confirmed that Cruise is still carrying on the birthday tradition they started after making War of the Worlds more than 20 years ago. The exchange was shared on Josh Horowitz's Instagram, and the whole thing somehow gets sweeter once Fanning explains why the Mission: Impossible star refuses to let the tradition of buying her shoes die. She said:

Tom’s War of the Worlds co-star was only 10 when she played his daughter Rachel in Steven Spielberg's 2005 War of the Worlds. She turned 11 while they were making the movie, and the Top Gun actor gave her what was basically the holy grail of middle-school technology at the time: a Motorola Razr. After that, the gifts turned into shoes. Lots of shoes.

Fanning has previously talked about how he has kept the birthday tradition alive, but I did not realize just how committed he apparently is to the bit. Horowitz asked what kind of shoes she gets after all these years, because presumably Cruise has worked his way through a decent portion of the footwear aisle by now. The Alienist star laughed and said:

Then came the question I would absolutely ask. Is Tom Cruise personally picking out Dakota Fanning's birthday shoes every year, or does someone on his team receive an annual calendar notification that reads, "Dakota. Shoes. Don't screw this up"? According to her, the longtime action star says he is involved:

Honestly, I wouldn't ask either. As they say, “never look a gift Cruise in the mouth.” Or something like that. At some point you just accept that the Minority Report helmer apparently decided you are getting shoes for life.

This is hardly the first story about the three-time Oscar nominee being weirdly thoughtful with old friends and co-stars. His white chocolate coconut Christmas cake has become Hollywood lore, with recipients practically treating its annual arrival like an event.

He also regularly champions other people's movies. Earlier this year, Cruise gave Steven Spielberg and Emily Blunt's Disclosure Day a very public boost, continuing his habit of encouraging audiences to show up for theatrical releases even when his name is nowhere on the poster.

But Dakota Fanning’s story gets me because the shoe gift has lasted for more than 20 years. The two met when she was a kid, and he found a simple way to stay connected and apparently decided there was no expiration date. At this point, I just hope the Twilight Saga actress has a very large closet or maybe a second home just for her ‘Cruise Shoes.’

I’m not exactly sure why, but there’s something about children’s entertainment and horror movies that just go so well together. I guess it’s the juxtaposition of innocence and evil, but we’ve seen it in tons of movies, from classics like Child’s Play to more recent offerings like Five Nights at Freddie’s. We can now add Buddy to that list, an upcoming horror movie centered around a fictional 1990s-style kids show starring a giant orange unicorn. Reviews are here, and they’ve got strong thoughts about what they’re calling Barney ... but with murder.

Keegan-Michael Key stars as Buddy the Unicorn, and Cristin Milioti plays Grace, a mother whose child’s disappearance is related to the forgotten children’s show. Buddy was written and co-directed by Casper Kelly, who’s known for his dark, creepy sense of humor — particularly on his projects for Adult Swim and most recently V/H/S/Halloween. Christian Zilko of IndieWire rates the movie a B+, writing:

Monica Castillo of AV Club also gives it a B+, calling Buddy a “deranged horror delight.” Casper Kelly has created a “delightfully messed-up horror movie” about childhood that’s made for adults. Castillo’s Buddy review says:

Although it’s been well over a decade since Barney & Friends last aired, the purple dinosaur seems to be making something of a comeback in recent years. In addition to the animated revival Barney’s World and the Peacock docuseries I Love You, You Hate Me, we’re also reportedly getting a live-action Barney movie from Daniel Kaluuya.

I guess the fact that Buddy’s orange unicorn is drawing so many Barney comparisons is proof that we really never got over that PBS classic. Owen Gleiberman of Variety says Casper Kelly’s spoof of it works, offering a handful of inspired touches, even if it overstays its welcome. He continues:

Tom Jorgensen of IGN, meanwhile, gives Buddy a “Great” 8 out of 10, praising the performances in a movie that stands apart from other kids-programming-goes-wrong features in how it calls attention to the dangers of toxic positivity. Casper Kelly expertly subverts the “treacly sweetness of kids’ TV with lots of sticky blood,” Jorgensen writes, continuing:

However, not everyone’s a fan. David Rooney of THR says those audience members who are “willing to settle for some weird-ass but ultimately toothless subversiveness” might enjoy this movie, but Rooney thinks it’s unsatisfyingly fleshed out. The critic says:

Most critics seem accepting of Buddy as a dark satire of ‘90s-era Barney & Friends, with the flick drawing an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score. Whether you’re looking for a nostalgia kick or just another spooky twist on children’s entertainment, you can catch Buddy in theaters when it hits the 2026 movie release calendar on Friday, August 28.

The last few years have seen Bruce Willis dealing with health struggles due to having been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023. Willis – who’s since retired from acting as a result of his condition – has been cared for by both medical professionals as well as his family. The star’s daughter, Rumer – whom he shares with ex-wife Demi Moore – has been very candid about what it’s been like helping to care for her dad. While she’s been honest about the hardships, she also just opened up about what she views as a “huge win.”

Many of Rumer Willis’ updates on her father have come by way of social media posts including intimate photos and videos. Willis broached the topic once more while speaking with People, and she discussed a bit about the dynamic she now has with her father. Although the Die Hard icon’s mental prowess is deteriorating, Rumer says she still has warm interactions with him:

Such comments align with sentiments Willis has shared in the past, specifically in regard to staying grateful amid her dad’s health situation. She and her relatives also do seem to be enjoying the joyous moments based on family photos they continue to share on social media. In Rumer’s opinion, dementia remains a “mystery” and due to the varied effects it has on people, she also describes it as an “unknown challenge.” During her recent interview, though, she further emphasized her feelings of thankfulness:

Over the past several years, Rumer Willis has experienced her share of joy even in the midst of Bruce’s challenges. For instance, it was in 2023 that Rumer welcomed her first child, a daughter, with ex-boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas. However, she’s also been candid about how it can sometimes be difficult to discuss the Looper star’s issues. Likewise, Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis has also been candid about the challenges of caring for him. But, at the same time, the two are also trying to create positive change in the dementia community.

Emma Heming is supporting scientific fact-finding by heading up the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver Support. Meanwhile, Rumer has teamed up with Function Health, which provides 160 lab tests and assessments for members that help determine medical conditions they may be susceptible to.

While it clearly hasn’t been easy for Bruce Willis’ family to handle his dementia diagnosis, they’re seemingly choosing to view both the “blessing and the curse” that comes with it. The blessing, of course, is that Rumer, Emma and their relatives are still in the position to spend time with Bruce and, hopefully, they continue to savor those moments.

Jelly Roll may be taking a break from touring, as he continues to heal from his shocking divorce from Bunny Xo, his wife of nearly 10 years. But the country music singer doesn’t seem to be slowing down in too many other areas of his life. Jelly Roll filled in for Jimmy Kimmel on ABC’s late-night talk show, where he spoke with Glen Powell about their upcoming 2027 movie The Comeback King. Powell admitted he didn’t know what to expect working with the artist, and according to one wild voice message, he got a “complete maniac.”

Glen Powell visited the increasingly popular Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but rather than being interviewed by the longtime host, it was the heavily tattooed country singer Jelly Roll sitting behind the desk. Powell discussed The Comeback King, which he wrote with Judd Apatow about a country music star whose career goes into freefall. Jelly Roll also appears in the movie, and it sounds like they had a blast on set, but there was some uncertainty on Powell’s part at first. He explained:

I think that’s a fair question. Jelly Roll has a complicated past and has been open about his addiction struggles and the jail time he’s served, as well as how important his faith is to him. Outside of his rap and country music career, he’s dabbled in pro wrestling, appearing on WrestleMania 42, and he performed on an episode of Tulsa King.

I think it was actually pretty cool of Glen Powell to reach out to see what the singer-turned-actor's parameters were, and I can guarantee he wasn’t expecting the response he got. Affecting a pretty darn good Jelly Roll impression, Powell read from a transcript of the voice message he received:

Glenn Powell laughed as he acknowledged how Jelly Roll spoke “straight from the heart.” There certainly doesn’t seem to be a lot that Jelly Roll can’t do. I honestly can’t say I would have seen him as a late-night talk show host, but he’s surprisingly good as one of Jimmy Kimmel’s guest hosts.

We’ll have to see when and where Jelly Roll pops up next, but while we wait for The Comeback King to hit theaters next year, be sure to catch Glen Powell on Chad Powers Season 2, which will be available to stream Thursday, September 3, with a Hulu subscription.

While he’s seemingly been quiet on the movie front, Will Smith has more than a few projects in the works. One particular production that’s been discussed more recently is Supermax, a new thriller being produced by Amazon MGM Studios. In an exciting turn of events, Smith officially announced this week that filming has officially begun on the movie. His first day was quite eventful, as he experienced a funny snafu and showed off a sweet gift from one of his children.

Production on Supermax officially kicked off in Australia this week, and Smith seemed very excited to get started. In a video jointly shared to Instagram by the Oscar winner, Amazon and Miramax, he could be seen hyping up Day 1 as headed into a trailer. Unfortunately, for him, he took a bit of a stumble, though the quick-witted actor then began to poke fun at himself for nearly injuring himself. Check out the post below to see that funny moment as well as the fresh (pun intended) present he received from his son, Jaden:

Had I been a crew member in the vicinity of that quick tumble, I probably would’ve been sweating just a bit. The notion of the leading man going down during his first day on set is just downright tragic. So I can imagine plenty of his collaborators breathing a sigh of relief that the 57-year-old star merely tripped. That aside, I’m not sure what I love more: Smith’s sense of humor about his stair-climbing fail or his appreciation for those red-bottom shoes. I can’t think of a sleeker way to kick off principal photography on a new film.

Supermax is directed by David Gordon Green – of Pineapple Express and Halloween fame – from a script penned by David Weil and David J. Rosen. The film centers around two FBI agents, who are summoned to a high-security prison to investigate a murder. Smith plays one of those agents, while AnnaSophia Robb plays the other. Also part of the cast are notable actors like Jason Clarke, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Jafaar Jackson (for whom this film is a Michael follow-up).

What I’m wondering now is if Smith might share some additional, behind-the-scenes photos throughout the film’s production cycle. If he does, I imagine they’ll be non-spoilery in nature but, if he doesn’t share anything in the months to come, I could see him doing so after the film’s release. The seasoned action star loves to share BTS tidbits, which I appreciate as a film fan. I’m honestly still amazed by that video he shared from filming Bad Boys: Ride or Die’s gun fights.

Supermax signifies Will Smith’s first film gig since Ride or Die hit theaters in 2024. Over the past few years, Smith has landed the movie projects Resistor and Rabbit Hole, though he had to step away from the previously announced Sugar Bandits. He also almost reunited with Michael Bay on Netflix’s Fast & Loose, though he ultimately left the production due to creative differences with his director. Smith is also eyeing some legacy sequels, as he’s developing I Am Legend 2 and teasing another Hancock movie.

More immediately, though, it seems evident that Smith’s focus is currently on his latest movie and getting that in the can. It’s unclear just how long he, Gordon Green and their colleagues will be shooting. But, in any case, I wish them all the best and hope that Smith (or anyone else for that matter) remains safe. I also hope he doesn’t scuff up those sweet kicks.

It’s yet to be confirmed whether Supermax will be released as part of the 2027 movie schedule, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for updates. For now, stream Smith’s latest movie, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which is streamable with a Hulu subscription.

It's a good time to be a Marvel fan, thanks to exciting titles hitting theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order are still reeling from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which was an insane box office hit. Unfortunately Destin Daniel Cretton's blockbuster did leave some material on the cutting room floor, including Rosario Dawson's deleted scene as Claire Temple. And it turns out that the movie featured another connection to Daredevil that we never saw.

Folks who watched the Netflix Marvel shows are thrilled that characters have returned to the shared universe, such as Daredevil and Punisher. But we've also got some FOMO, thanks to Dawson's Claire Temple nearly having a role in Brand New Day. Over on Twitter, a crew member who designed props for the movie revealed a slick connection to Daredevil that didn't get featured in the theatrical cut. Check it out below:

I LOVE this attention to detail. While Charlie Cox's MCU character doesn't appear in Brand New Day, he was clearly still there in spirit. Because inside Peter Parker's wallet included a business card for Matt Murdock's practice, which is an A+ reference to Cox's cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Even if the business card wasn't actually shown in the new movie, these small details help to make the shared universe feel like a real, interconnected place.

Obviously Doctor Strange's spell during No Way Home's ending resulted in Matt Murdock (and the entire world) forgetting who Peter Parker was. But it's fun that Tom Holland's hero kept the card just in case he needed some legal help from his former lawyer.

I'm still holding out hope that Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple gets to return to the MCU sometime soon. She was the connective tissue between almost all the Marvel Netflix shows, with Claire assisting heroes in Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Defenders. And since the actress continues to work with Disney as the live-action Ahsoka in the Star Wars universe, it would make sense for her to pop up in the MCU eventually. Fingers crossed that we don't have to wait much longer... or that we eventually see the deleted Brand New Day scene with her.

Fans are also hoping to see Daredevil and Spider-Man suited up and fighting bad guys in the shared universe. While Matt and Peter interacted, the same can't be said for their superhero alter egos. And since they're both New York City-based heroes, it would make sense if their paths eventually crossed.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still in theaters now, and Avengers: Doomsday will follow suit on December 18th as part of the 2026 movie release list. We'll just have to see if/when Claire Temple re-enters the MCU.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for constantly treating fans to new content, both in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. There are a number of upcoming Marvel movies that fans are curious about, chief among them being Jake Schreier's developing X-Men movie. And a new rumor about that blockbuster has me confused about Hugh Jackman's future as Wolverine.

The Greatest Showman actor returned as Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine, which broke records at the box office and seemingly confirmed he'd continue playing the clawed mutant. But Jackman was noticeably missing from X-Men's casting announcement, and a new rumor listed a bunch of other mutants who might pop up during the movie's runtime. That viral tweet alleges:

Well, I'm stumped. Hugh Jackman was the face of the original X-Men movies, starring in seven titles (as well as a handful of cameos). And after he returned to Wolverine in the third Deadpool movie, it seemed clear he was going to be playing the role "till he's 90." But if this rumor is to be believed, he's not going to be included in the fun of Schreier's MCU blockbuster. Talk about a bummer.

Of course, this isn't official just yet, and there are countless Marvel rumors that don't actually end up coming to fruition. The cast that was announced seems to indicate that the team of mutants will be a bit younger than the OGs, which might be the reason for leaving Wolverine out... at least for now. Still, it's hard to imagine a new X-Men movie without Weapon X. This is especially noteworthy since Deadpool 3 was such a wild financial success, coming shortly after box office bombs like The Marvels.

What Ryan Reynolds Has Said About Deadpool's Future.

If this rumor turns out to be legit and Wolverine won't be in the X-Men movie, I have to assume that he'll pop up in whatever comes next for Deadpool. Jackman and Reynolds were both not included in the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement, but plenty of folks are hoping they appear in either that title or Secret Wars. For his part, Reynolds has denied appearing in the next Avenger movie.

So, if Jackman isn't going to be in Doomsday or X-Men, then fans might have to wait for a fourth Deadpool flick. Shortly after the threequel was released Reynolds mentioned wanting to take a break from Wade Wilson, saying:

While this seemed pretty cut and dry, rumor swirled about Ryan Reynolds developing Deadpool 4 sooner rather than later, especially amidst his wife Blake Lively's ongoing (and expensive) legal battle with Justin Baldoni. Is anyone else's head spinning?

Overall I feel totally clueless about when and where we should expect Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to return to the big screen. I personally feel like there's going to be a Logan-Sized hole in the X-Men movie, but maybe he'll end up having a surprise role after all. Fingers crossed.

The next MCU movie hitting theaters is Avengers: Doomsday on December 18th as part of the 2026 movie release list. As for X-Men, that project is currently expected to hit theaters on May 5th 2028... with or without Wolverine.

Tom Holland and Zendaya are in the public eye a lot, and oftentimes they are at carpets and events together. This year, they had a whopping two press tours to complete, with both starring in the two biggest movies of the year so far: Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey. Because of this, we sometimes do get tidbits of information about Tom and Zendaya's relationship, but it’s not because they are often openly talking about one another.

A short time before the cat was officially out of the bag regarding Zendaya’s nuptials to the Spider-man star, she was asked to comment on whether or not she was married. She was wearing a gold band on her ring finger, so Elle’s question didn’t feel too pushy. Still, her answer was a polished “no” coupled with a second comment that helps us to understand why she doesn’t talk about Tom so often.

"They're" in this context is likely the Internet as a collective. In fact, Zendaya’s spoken in the past about people online having a “parasocial” investment in her and Tom Holland as a couple. They grew up together on the big screen, and found love on Spider-Man, which makes their attraction an obvious source of public fascination. She’s said she is not trying to “hide from the world,” but she wants things close that can still be private for herself and her partner.

Holland, too, has confirmed he tries hard to keep things “private” when it comes to Zendaya. However, he’s also a frequent spoiler in Hollywood, and sometimes slips up. This happened recently when he revealed what he really calls Zendaya on the red carpet. Catching her attention, he called out the name “Maree,” which is one of Zendaya Coleman’s middle names: Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman (and maybe now Holland at the end). It was a sweet, organic moment, and an exchange we wouldn't typically get to see.

They do let loose home information periodically. In the same interview as above, Zendaya talked about the puppy she and her partner adopted recently. For his part, Tom Holland's talked about finding it hard to plan holidays given their busy schedules. Yet as the Peter Parker actor has also mentioned, they both hold the relationship sacred and don't share too many details.

Of course, secrets don’t usually stay secrets forever. After a friend copped to an under-the-radar wedding back in March (and Law Roach seemingly confirmed this), Tom Holland casually mentioned his family wasn’t fooled by AI photos of his wedding since “they were all there” in June. Then, Tom Holland started wearing his wedding band out early this month. Following that, there was reportedly a second set of nuptials at the Beaverbrook Hotel. So, the spring and summer has really been all about the couple.

She just doesn’t want to talk about it much, and that’s OK.

We’re already over halfway through the 2026 movie schedule, and I have my favorites, and then there’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. I knew I had to see it because I haven’t been able to shake off writer/director Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw The TV Glow since it came out in 2024. But, wow, did this movie out-weird this year of films in the best way! I need to talk about it.

Where Do I Even Start To Explain Camp Miasma?

On the surface level, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’s premise really intrigued me. I knew it was about a queer filmmaker, Kris (Hannah Einbinder), who is hired to revitalize a fictional beloved slasher franchise. She decides to pay the movie’s original final girl, Billy Presley (Gillian Anderson), a visit. The trailer had a dreamlike quality to it too that really interested me. On its face, I figured it would be an artsy horror-learning LGBTQ+ movie, but there’s a lot more going on with it.

I’ve had a difficult time explaining it to other people because it doesn’t neatly fit in one genre at all. Camp Miasma is so many things at once, and I’m honestly amazed at how well it executes its balance between being them all. It’s not a horror movie, but it’s definitely an examination of the slasher side of the genre. It’s got romance, but it feels more like a feverish sex dream than a pure love story. It’s definitely a comedy, but there’s something really guttural about the emotional journey it takes you on, too. You see my problem? It’s definitely the weirdest movie of 2026 I’ve seen, though, and when I say that, it’s definitely a compliment.

I Know This For Sure: I’m Never Going To Think About Slashers The Same Again

I’m not going to talk about spoilers, but I do want to delve a bit more into how Camp Miasma made me feel, because I honestly can’t stop thinking about it. At the movie’s core, Schoenbrun is examining the inherently freaky connection between desire and death through the lens of slasher films. And, not in a “cool, but I don’t get it” way, but a soul-bearing, honest way.

Like, why are slasher movies always trying to be sexy? And why does it make sense that they are? It’s something that I’ve never thought deeply about – it's just been a truth in the genre. As Kris tries to uncover what she wants to bring to her reboot of Camp Miasma while staying with Billy, she starts to explore how desire and fantasy have been so entangled with her longtime interest in the franchise.

Before I saw it, I didn’t get the title, but the addition of “teenage sex and death” to its name is really necessary to explain it. It gets into why both sex and death are both these visceral experiences, and actually quite similar to each other. And, there's also quite a lot to say about intimacy anxiety that I've never seen a movie tackle like this before.

Then, there’s the originality of it all. I can honestly say that Jane Schoenbrun has carved their own place in filmmaking, and has a perspective that I’ve never seen before in movies. Camp Miasma isn’t a big studio film, and you feel that, but there’s something really accessible about it too that I was thrilled by.

Like, truly, I don’t think anyone but Schoenbrun could have made this, and that’s so preciously rare to find. It’s also certainly a reminder why having transgender representation is so needed in Hollywood. And, further proof that the queer experience can and does uncover a lot of universal ideas we've yet to see on the big screen.

Anyways, I’m certainly not the only person who’s raving about Camp Miasma. The movie is receiving a lot of high praise from audiences and critics alike, who’ve called it a “bountiful meal of pleasure and excess on an arthouse silver platter” and “heartfelt, but whimsical”. You can check it out for yourself in theaters now.

Every actor has that one role that got away… or maybe a few. For Outer Banks’ Chase Stokes, it sounds like Top Gun: Maverick could be atop his own list. The actor shared his audition story, and be warned, what happened might give you some major second-hand embarrassment.

It’s the end of an era for Chase Stokes and the cast of Outer Banks, now that the series’ ending is streaming with a Netflix subscription. While doing press for the final season, he decided to get his Top Gun: Maverick audition story off his chest. As he said:

Stokes shared his anecdote with co-star Madison Bailey while the two were playing a game of Truth or Lie with Entertainment Weekly. She correctly guessed that it was “true,” and then he revealed that it was for Maverick. In his words:

Whoa, what a bummer! Top Gun: Maverick sounds like it would have been a dream for Stokes, who was in his early twenties when he tried out for the role. However, because he didn’t really read all the specifics of what he was reading for, he ended up leaving the audition in disappointment. As Stokes added:

The rejection associated with being an actor is seriously a lot. And, Chase Stokes' confession about what happened with his Maverick audition puts us in the shoes of what it’s like.There’s also a lesson in there for everyone, too. “Winging it” might seem cool (and be a fantastic pun for this specific topic), but being prepared definitely pays off more in the end.

I don’t doubt that tons of other high-profile actors auditioned for Top Gun: Maverick, and didn’t get it either. Glen Powell for example, originally tried out for the role of Rooster and lost out to Miles Teller. Reportedly, Nicolas Hoult also was in the running for the same role, and wasn’t chosen.

But, in Powell’s case Tom Cruise actually insisted he be in the movie in another role, and he ended up playing Hangman, instead. Then there’s Austin Butler, who was invited to audition for Maverick, but had to pass in order to be in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Hey, everything happens for a reason. And, maybe not getting Maverick paved the way for Stokes to get another role. When you’re done bingeing the actor in Outer Banks, you can look forward to seeing the actor next in AMC’s Thunder Road. It’s about the “need for speed” in pro racing. It’s expected to premiere in 2027.

Currently, one of the most talked about upcoming Marvel movies (aside from Doomsday) is the developing X-Men reboot movie. While most details have been limited, the casting announcement at D23 has given us a huge tease at what to expect. And everyone has an opinion on what the new movie should (and shouldn’t) be. Even X-Men ‘97 EPs Eric and Julia Lewald have some advice for the MCU’s reboot. And honestly, I hope the creative team is listening.

Some of my favorite X-Men projects have focused on the humanity of the characters and not just their cool superpowers. And the Lewald duo know what they’re talking about. Fans have fallen in love with the X-Men all over again thanks to their animated series, which has had stand out episodes like the Gambit one. But no one says it better than Julia Lewald who told Collider:

I hope Marvel is taking notes. One thing I’ve always loved about the mutant characters is their humanity and the found family of the X-Men team. That's also why I loved recently cancelled Wonder Man so much. Thankfully, it seems that Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier is taking the movie seriously, as he described it as an “incredible opportunity and quite a responsibility.” The desire Marvel has to do something new with the characters has me both excited and nervous.

But we have seen some success with that mentality. Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Thunderbolts* performed well at the box office. And it seems that fans are getting excited again to see what Marvel has to offer. This is, in part, thanks to X-Men ‘97 Season 2 which was part of this summer’s new releases and can be checked out with a Disney+ subscription. It also proves that the EPs know what they’re talking about. And why I can’t help agreeing with the moving piece of advice Eric Lewald offers:

It can be easy to get carried away with superpowers and fight scenes over character-driven storytelling. We’ve seen this with Marvel. But we’ve also seen the studio get it completely right. I think Eric Lewald describes it in the loveliest way: “You want to challenge the characters, but you can’t change them. You have to be true to them. That’s the core of all storytelling.” Keeping this in mind and knowing the script is being written by Joanna Calo (The Bear) and Lee Sung Jin (Beef), my confidence is tentatively high.

For now, details are limited about that film. But we do have the main cast (so far) already announced. Some fan-favorites getting new life with Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Inde Navarette as Rogue, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister. However, currently we haven’t received any news about a Magneto casting or if we’ll see the character in the upcoming movie.

That said, I hope that whatever direction Marvel takes they listen to advice like what the Lewalds shared and focus on the characters. If they do this, then I think the MCU’s future is going to be amazing!

When Disneyland Paris’ new Lion King details were announced at D23 this year, I had two thoughts. First, that’s awesome. And secondly, how has a Disney park never featured a full land themed around the seminal 1994 movie before? It's clearly a movie that lives fondly in peoples' hearts, and also Disney World has a whole theme park dedicated to animals, and we just have one Lion King show.

I don’t have the full answer to that question, but thanks to the Internet’s ability to dig up viral clips, I do know Disneyland Paris has gone viral thanks to The Lion King and a live baby cub before. Yes, you must see it to believe it.

Let’s Jump Back To Disneyland Paris In 2004

Ten years after the release of The Lion King, the movie was still popular thanks to the Disney vault (those of you with a Disney+ subscription don't know how good you've had it) and the recent release of The Lion King 1 1/2. This was apparently true of fans in France, as well, as the famous Disneyland Paris put on a Lion King Carnival. That in and of itself was special given the lack of lands surrounding Simba and co. at the time, but it also came with a live event that featured a character actor dressed up as Rafiki holding up a real live lion cub on Pride Rock, much like happens in the original animated movie.

This honestly sounded like the stuff of legend when I first heard about it, but one frequent theme parkgoer shared their footage of the event this week. If reports are true, multiple sources seem to be confirming this is a thing that actually happened and/or they were privy to at the time.

A poster over on X shared a slew of footage from the event at the time, and eagle-eyed fans spotted what seemed to be a real-life lion cub amidst the other characters working the event. The poster then shared a second video from the event that seemed to confirm a real lion cub was brought in for a Pride Rock scene, and that was no stuffie.

Several posters also went to the Carnival the year it occurred at Disneyland Paris and confirmed the baby lion was real and really in attendance, and you can find additional evidence peppered over Flickr and more places. While it’s not unusual to see animals in theme parks, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida has a range of animals of prey on the Savannah, these aren’t really animals that are being taken out of their enclosures and used for show content.

The expectations in Paris in 2004 were clearly different. The celebration as a whole sounds big and bold though. Just to add a little icing to the cake, at the end of the night, after the whole Lion King-themed live Simba moment, the park reportedly put on some amusingly named FiROARWorks.

What We Know About The Disneyland Paris Attraction

So, why is this resurfacing right now? The Lion King has been a big topic of conversation over the last several days. We've known since 2024 something was coming to Disneyland Paris, but this year new details were announced, and Disney shared the concept art for the area, above.

Disneyland Paris is set to take riders all the way back to the Pridelands for a new water ride, and it's all part of a major Lion King-themed area that's been under construction at the park for a while. The big new attraction there will be a log flume ride that feels similar to Splash Mountain/Tiana’s Bayou Adventure that will show Simba growing from a young cub at the start of the journey to the King of Pride Rock. It’ll have a 52-foot drop which is also similar to Tiana’s, which sports around a 50-foot drop.

It's a little different than what several of the Senior Management team at Disney World told CinemaBlend they had envisioned (think: more Pandora-style). Regardless, a construction model and more were shown, and you can check out more via our D23 Event Blog. Meanwhile, Disney is looking to expand a lot of its parks and not just Disneyland Paris. Stay tuned as more news comes down the pipeline. We're having a roaring good time with it.

As entertaining as Halle Berry is to watch on screen, her social media presence has also proven to be incredibly delightful in recent years. The Oscar winner seems to enjoy sharing sweet, little tidbits of her personal life with her fans, and I’m here for it. Berry has been particularly active online over the past month due to the John Wick alum celebrating her 60th birthday. She’s already posted about that major life milestone and, now, she’s marking the occasion one more time. And a little black dress was involved.

Berry has evidently been living it up throughout her entire birthday month, and she most recently shared an update to Instagram. The actress’ post is filled with photos and videos that chronicle her birthday festivities, which took place at a resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. Also present in some of the clips and snapshots is Van Hunt, Berry’s fiancé. Take a look at the post below, which sees Berry dancing, singing and frolicking while wearing that LBD:

Few people can sport a little, black dress the way Halle Berry can, and I’d argue that the A-lister can make just about any fit look good. Aside from that, though, I can’t help but smile at the sight of her soaking up everything that 60 has to offer thus far. She may have hit the big 6-0 on August 14th, but she makes it clear in the caption of this latest post that she’s been celebrating for a while. The sentiments, as a whole, are incredibly sweet and read as follows:

It’s lovely to see the sheer amount of gratitude emanating from this message, and it feels like this is coming from someone who’s gained some perspective on life. To me, Berry has become a shining example of how a person can embrace aging and find joy in whatever form it comes. And, for Berry, that delight comes from dancing and whipping out a black-and-white bikini among other things.

There are more than a few reasons why Halle Berry has become a must-follow on social media. Sure, she serves up bikini pics and sentimental photos with Hunt, but movie lovers like myself also appreciate the ways in which she references her work. Earlier this year, she actually fielded a question about 2002’s Die Another Day and confirmed that she still has her iconic, orange swimwear from that film. Berry also celebrated X-Men’s 26th anniversary and expressed gratitude for having played the role of Storm.

Many superhero fans (including myself) are wondering if Berry will reprise Storm in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Of course, the cheeky star has mostly been playing coy on the matter. Whatever the future holds for her both personally and professionally as she enters her 60s, I hope she continues to hold onto her signature spark and palpable love for life.

Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds is one of the biggest movie stars working in Hollywood right now, and he's collaborated with various filmmakers as a result. He and his latest director go way back, though. Like, I'm talking back when Reynolds was filming Blade: Trinity. With that, the director can even recall the Canadian actor scarfing down turkey on the set of the Marvel movie, as CinemaBlend learned.

John Francis Daley, who was famously in Freaks and Geeks and Bones, is also one half of a writer/director partnership that also includes John Goldstein. They've been the driving force behind a lot of solid movies, given they made Game Night, the Dungeons & Dragons movie (of which there's a written sequel) and now, Ryan Reynolds' latest movie, Mayday. When CinemaBlend spoke to them, Daley recalled his history with Reynolds. In his words:

What a time to meet Ryan Reynolds! Is eating turkey slices all day OK for your health? Probably not, but it’s apparently one thing the actor was doing to beef up for the Marvel role. Waiting… is one of Reynolds’ early comedies, and it also stars Justin Long, Anna Faris and Daley, who was probably like nineteen or twenty at the time. Here they are as they appear in the movie:

It's amazing that that was over twenty years ago, and he never forgot what it was like to work with Reynolds. As for Blade: Trinity, it isn't just Wesley Snipes' third Marvel movie. It's also the first superhero flick in Reynolds' filmography, and it was actually the reason he was first introduced to Deadpool.

Show business relationships can vary, as people may lose contact over time. Daley went on to explain how he and Reynolds kept up with each other:

John Francis Daley and John Goldstein have been on an interesting path as filmmakers. They first movie they co-wrote that got made was 2011’s Horrible Bosses, but they really got some notoriety with their second directorial effort, 2018's Game Night, really earned them some notoriety. When Reynolds saw it, he went out of his way to reach out to Daley and express his interest in working together. And, now, they’ve finally got one in Mayday.

Daley and Goldstein told us they started writing Mayday, which is being called Misery meets Top Gun, while in post-production on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. They knew their Soviet Era action comedy might be a “tough sell” but, once they got Reynolds and his company on board, everything seemed to fall into place. Check out the trailer below:

The film sees Reynolds playing a US Air Force Pilot who gets into an accident that leaves him in the Russian wilderness. There he befriends an ex-KGB agent played by Kenneth Branagh. Based on what's been shown of the film thus far, it looks like it's going to be a wild, good time.

I think what's most satisfying about this production right now, though, is that it's partially born from a friendship that started decades ago. I can only imagine what it was like for Ryan Reynolds and John Francis Daley to work alongside each other on set again. Here's hoping that when they get some downtime, they can split a bit of turkey and celebrate their new flick.

There haven’t been very many female Bond villains over the years, at least not as the “main” villain, and Saoirse Ronan wants to change that. I do too. The Bond franchise is replete with the same basic avatar of a villain. It’s typically an older guy with designs on somehow taking over the world. You can’t argue with the success of the template, but with the upcoming 26th Bond movie, the franchise is getting rebooted in a big way, so now is the time!

Bond Is Getting Reinvented, Maybe It’s Finally Time

Ronan, who is probably best known for playing more dramatic roles in movies like Lady Bird and Little Women, or in quirky comedies like The French Dispatch and The Grand Budapest Hotel, has never really played a baddie in a film. So that makes her kind of perfect to take on the role of a Bond villain; it would be a real change of pace for the actor. Here’s what Ronan recently told Empire:

She has a clear idea why, too, adding:

I’ll admit I’m not sure that playing a villain as an inspiration to others is the best idea. But I do think that Ronan could play a completely new kind of Bond antagonist, rather than the standard old guy villain that we’ve seen most often in the Bond franchise over the years. A young, fierce woman, kind of in the vein of Sophie Marceau in The World Is Not Enough, but with less “damsel in distress” at the beginning, would be amazing.

There have been henchwomen and secondary female villains, like Grace Jones’ May Day in A View to a Kill, and Lotte Lenya’s Rosa Klebb in From Russia With Love. Marceau’s Electra in The World Is Not Enough is (secretly at first) the real villain of the movie, but that reveal comes late in its runtime. I want to see a classic villain, who is the main baddie from the start with a plan to take over the world, in the mold of Goldfinger or Blofeld.

Of course, most of the major female roles in the franchise have been the famous “Bond girls,” some of whom have been antagonists towards 007, but rarely in true “villain” form. With Bond 26 being the first movie produced since Amazon MGM bought the franchise (meaning you can watch all of them with a Prime subscription) from the Broccoli family, I do think they’ll play it a little safe with this one and not shock the fanbase by straying too far from the tried-and-true formula. But I’d be all in if they did.

Fans spend a lot of time hyping up action stars for doing their own stunts, but let the record show it’s a rough life on the set of comedies too. David Spade, Chris Rock and the cast of Grown Ups 3 found that out first hand recently when they were forced to film a scene for two consecutive days that involved a lot of standing up. Fortunately, with emotional support from their longtime buddies and a few laughs, they were able to get through it.

Spade told the hilarious story during the most recent episode of his Fly On The Wall podcast with Dana Carvey. He said the Grown Ups 3 set schedule, which is currently ongoing, called for the main characters to shoot a scene where they’re drinking and talking. It was filmed over the course of two days, and partway through the first day, the guys, who are all in their late 50s or early 60s, were not enjoying the experience.

According to Spade, when you get uncomfortable in your everyday life, you can sit down or switch positions, but because of camera movements, they basically just had to remain in place the whole time. The experience was apparently not enjoyable for the other guys either, who collectively started bonding over the various ailments they’re dealing with at this point in their lives.

Not surprisingly, time did not make the experience any more pleasant. The shoot on the second day was even more draining. By the end, the group was apparently discussing what the floor was made out of (cement) and whether shoes were helping or hurting. At one point, they even entertained a conspiracy theory about whether the area where they were standing had gotten harder overnight for inexplicable reasons. Maybe someone had messed with it, and there was less give on the second day?

I’d love to roast these guys, but as a dude who is approaching 40, I honestly feel more empathy than anything else. I’d much rather walk around than stand around. I’m also getting to the point where catching up with my friends often involves people running down a list of various ailments they’re dealing with that include descriptive phrases like “shoulder pain” and “recovery day.”

There’s no official release date for Grown Ups 3, but the film is widely expected to hit the movie release schedule sometime in 2027. Spade, Rock and Schneider are, of course, back along with other leads Adam Sandler and Kevin James. They’re joined by other franchise veterans including Salma Hayek Pinault, Maya Rudolph and Maria Bello. Given the popularity of the first two films, the newest entry is widely expected to be a big hit for Netflix. Fingers crossed it ends up being worth all the standing around-related pain it’s taking to produce.

The Fall movie season still isn't in full swing, but we do have a slew of action movies hitting the 2026 movie schedule in September, including new ones from Brad Pitt, Liam Neeson, and Mahershala Ali. Director Ridley Scott also has a new one in August, joining his fellow acclaimed directors Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan, with big releases this year. They will be joined by another legend, Denis Villeneuve, later this year, too.

It's also worth noting that, though they aren't on this list, all four Hunger Games movies are getting released in theaters on September 4th in anticipation of the upcoming prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping.

Summer Blockbusters may be over, but we're definitely not done with great action movies coming out over the next year or so. So far this year, we’ve had big-screen disaster films, epic sci-fi adventures, and some of the most thrilling spectacles in recent memory. From here out, through the end of this year and into the 2027 movie schedule, we're going to be getting a lot more action thrillers, including some video game adaptations and a whole lot more. Here's what's in store for us with upcoming action movies in 2026 and 2027.

The Dog Stars - August 28, 2026

With a cast led by Academy Award nominee Jacob Elordi, the movie is set to follow a pilot as he, a former marine (played by Josh Brolin), and a dog embark upon an epic journey to survive a vast and dangerous dystopian future following a flu outbreak that wiped out much of humanity. Could this be the movie to earn Ridley Scott an Oscar? We shall see!

Onslaught - September 4, 2026

An upcoming A24 film on this list that looks totally badass is Onslaught, starring Adria Arjona as an army sniper who is forced to protect her family from an, you guessed it, onslaught of other soldiers. A24 has released some excellent action movies in the last couple of years, like Warfare and Civil War, so I have high hopes for this one, too.

With a filmography that includes John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy, it’s safe to say that David Leitch knows a thing or two about directing big action spectacles. Well, he’ll add another movie to that list this September with the release of How to Rob a Bank. Starring Nicholas Hoult, Anna Sawai, Pete Davidson, and Zoë Kravitz, this crime flick will follow a crew of bank robbers as they find themselves on the run after documenting their heists.

As someone who can’t get enough of great heist films, this one is doing a number on me.

Runner - September 11, 2026

A big surprise for me this year was hearing about Runner. The movie is coming from Angel Studios, which has traditionally been a faith-based production company. Runner is definitely a full-on action movie, however. Alan Ritchson, fresh off Reacher Season 4 (and currently shooting Season 5), co-stars with Owen Wilson in this action comedy that could prove to be a bigger release than people are anticipating.

The Fix - September 11, 2026

What would a great action movie list be without a Liam Neeson revenge flick? Well, in September, we'll be getting The Fix. It's a rescue movie AND a revenge flick, so it's everything we want and expect from Neeson.

Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother - September 25, 2026

Mahershala Ali is back this fall with an action movie with a frustrating title to Google: Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, but it does look like a pretty exciting movie. In it, Ali plays a widower who can't escape his past when he is faced with the challenges of raising three kids as an only father.

Heart Of The Beast - September 25, 2026

Brad Pitt joins in on the 2026 action movie fun with Heart of the Beast as a former Army Ranger who finds himself in survival mode in the wilderness with his retired combat dog. It looks like a harrowing journey, especially for dog lovers who won't like seeing the dog in harm's way.

Street Fighter - October 16, 2026

The new Street Fighter movie is one of the 2026 releases I can’t stop thinking about. I’m a massive (and unabashed) fan of the 1994 adaptation starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and the late Raul Julia, and Kitao Sakurai’s star-studded fighting movie has me all jazzed up like I’m a kid again.

If the rest of the movie is as wild and stylized as the Street Fighter trailer that dropped back in December 2025, we’re going to be going on one hell of a ride come October. I can’t wait to find out more about one of my most anticipated upcoming video game movies, especially after Cody Rhodes namechecked Van Damme when hyping it up.

Godzilla Minus Zero - November 6, 2026

Three years after Takashi Yamazaki gave the world one of the most terrifying and emotionally gruelling kaiju movies, he’s coming back with the highly anticipated Godzilla Minus Zero. I almost don't want to know anything about this sequel and just go in blind, but the teaser is out there, if you want to get an idea of what we'll getting into.
