Here’s a handy little gadget that popped up on my radar today – something that’s a little too expensive for pure prank value, but conceptually pretty neat: a wrong number generator.

Do here’s the deal: You spend $90 and figure out who you want to pull a prank on. Then you go over to their house and when their back is turned, you unplug their phone and put this in the line (between the phone and the wall jack). When they make a call, the wrong number generator messes with the numbers they press so they wind up calling the wrong number. Replacing the phone doesn’t change anything, since it’s the device that’s messing things up, not the phone. Unless they look for this little nondescript device (and who really pays that close attention to their phone line), this’ll drive them batty.

To add to the frustration, the wrong number generator is set up to not interfere with about 25% of the calls made. That means 1 in 4 calls will go through fine, but the other three wind up as wrong numbers. Thankfully the manufacturer thought ahead – calls to 911 always go through without trouble.

$90 is a little much for my tastes, but perhaps the price is right for your pranking needs. Click to check out the wrong number generator at SpySite.
