The CW's Summer 2012 Unscripted Series Line-up Includes Singing, Dancing And Partying

The CW has a few new reality TV series set to join their summer schedule this year, joining the previously scheduled musical chairs reality show Oh Sit!. From the sound of the newly announced unscripted programming, viewers have singing, dancing, and partying to look forward to on the CW this summer.

The CW already had Oh Sit! set to join the line-up this summer. The show is described as a “high-stakes, high-octane musical chairs competition,” which has contestants racing around obstacle course-style challenges in an effort to claim a chair and win a cash prize. That in itself sounds like an interesting game show for the network, once their regular programming goes on hiatus for the summer.

Joining Oh Sit! are The Star Next Door, Breaking Pointe, and The Catalina, the first of which is a competition, the second a look at ballet, and the third, a reality show about a hotel in Miami. The Star Next Door sounds like the CW’s next attempt at a singing competition, as the show searches for undiscovered artists “on the verge of stardom.” The competition includes “superstar mentors” like Gloria Estefan and John Rich. The twist is that, rather than the competitors going to one specific place to be mentored, the mentors come to them and visit their town, “immersing themselves in the lives and towns of these local performers and preparing them for the chance to represent their home city on stage, live, in front of America.”

If The Voice is showing us anything, it's that a solid line-up of celebrity mentors and a twist in the format can grab viewers attention. Talent is also a plus.

Breaking Pointe should appeal to aspiring dancers. The unscripted series explores the competitive world of ballet, going behind the scenes of Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Beneath the beauty and glamour of the dance and costumes is a gritty dog-eat-dog world of extreme athleticism, focus, dedication, passion, pressure and, of course, the hunt for the unattainable…perfection.

Finally, there’s The Catalina, a reality series that follows the “young, wild staff” of The Catalina, a hotel in Miami’s South Beach.

The fun-loving group, who form their own dysfunctional family unit, run a glamorous destination hotel while partying even harder than their guests.

The CW calls this their “most aggressive summer slate ever.” Between Oh Sit!, and the three recently ordered reality TV shows, it sounds like the CW will have plenty of unscripted music and drama to offer their viewers in the absence of their other programs.
