Rick Santorum dropped out of the Republican race for the presidential bid just a few weeks ago. Despite Ol’ Rick once saying he had no “burning desire” to be president, a loss is a loss, and hopefully a few weeks has been enough time to give the former candidate a bit of an ego boost and a plan for what lies in his future. I’m sure Leno is hoping for this, also, otherwise a loss is all the two men are going to be able to talk about when Santorum shows up on the set in a couple of weeks.
Santorum is set to appear on the upcoming May 8th episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The former Pennsylvania Senator has never appeared on the NBC late-night program before, and it seems a little odd he would appear now, after his high-end political aspirations for the 2012 election are over. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how the man does in a less formal environment and whether or not an appearance such as his upcoming stint on the show could have won him a few voters.
Presidents and politicians have occasionally crushed the ratings on Leno’s show in the past; however, I am unsure the same audience will show up for someone bumped out of the race. Nonetheless, if you up for a night of political opinions and some good old family-value anecdotes, this may be the episode for you.
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno airs weeknights on NBC at 11:35 p.m. ET.
