Fringe's J.J. Abrams And J.H. Wyman Team Up For Robot Buddy Cop Drama Pilot At Fox

Fringe may be wrapping up this season, but it looks like executive producers J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman are still looking to work with one another. The duo have teamed up for a new sci-fi project that has received a pilot production commitment from Fox. This marks the second recently announced robot-themed TV project in development for network TV.

Deadline reported the news that Abrams and Wyman are setting up a new futuristic drama at Fox, to be produced by Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV. The project doesn't have a title yet, but it's described as "an action-packed buddy cop show, set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids."

"Good robot!" (Had to be done.)

The premise to this currently-untitled drama sounds interesting, though as Deadline points out, it's a little bit similar sounding to the high-concept drama project Howard Gordon and Josh Friedman are working on for NBC, which would also be set in a world "where human-looking robots are commonplace" and involves the investigation of the first robot murder (and a possibly-impending robot revolution).

Will next season be the season of robot shows? It all depends on how both of these projects do, but for those of us who find premises involving man & or vs. machine, it's definitely not bad news to know there are a couple of TV projects in the works involving stories like that. And it's a major bonus to see names like Abrams, Wyman, Gordon and Friedman attached to them.
