They are coming! And not just the Observers, although they most certainly are according to all of the fifth season promos, but the entire cast of dimension crossing characters are coming back with the Fringe premiere only two weeks away. And one day. The first episode of the last season, "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11," will take us back to the dystopian future glimpsed in "Letters of transit" (Episode 19 of last year) with the Fringe division recently thawed and on the run from the Observer overlords.
Dystopias are such a bummer. Heed, obey, serve? That's about as uninspiring a motto as you could possibly imagine but the Observers care little about what us Natives would find inspiring (well, perhaps to quash it), they only care that we do what we're required. And in order to create a populace who will blindly follow the rules, you have to ensure that they know what the rules are which is why the Observers had been releasing these 'PSAs' about how to conduct oneself in 2036. First, pay attention to the "Travel Protocol."
Ugh. The opening siren sounds so much like my alarm clock that it makes my brain instantly detest everything to come after and luckily, that wasn't too hard with the smug faced, bald headed, fedora wearing Observer telling us about the proper travel procedures. A little fascist no? Well, that's nothing compared to the first message, sorry edict (zero nine of sixteen to be exact with the former being edict twelve) that was released last week. Take a look and learn about the wonderful world of the "Cerebral Scan Protocol."
I love this viral campaign so far with the videos having a Lost 'Dharma Initiative' creepy vibe to them, not to mention an oddly low-fi look for the future that is also a little unsettling. That's only fitting, since the whole show is a little unsettling but in a good way. Fringe returns with the Season 5 premiere called "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11" on Friday, September 28th at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. The series was created by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman. It stars Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Jasika Nicole and Lance Reddick.
