Fringe: The Complete Fifth And Final Season Will Hit Blu-ray In May

When I first read Fringe: The Complete Fifth and Final Season was already in the works over at Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, I was simultaneously a little shocked and impressed. The series only finished its run a few days ago, and usually it takes months and months for companies to put together sufficient Blu-ray and DVD sets. As it turns out, Fringe: The Complete Fifth and Final Season won’t hit homes until May 7, but Warner Bros. has been quick to put together the details of the release.

Season 5 takes place in a world teased during the Season 4 episode “Letters in Transit.” The dystopian future is ruled by the once-peaceful Observers and the members of the Fringe crew are the only ones standing in the ruthless Observers way. The season also features a grown-up version of Henrietta "Etta" Bishop, who helps the Fringe team as they opt to take one last stand.

For five seasons, Fringe was a fan favorite, airing on Friday evenings on Fox. With such a loyal following, one might assume Fringe: The Complete Fifth and Final Season would be chock full of bonus features. It sort-of is, but when compared to movies with a similar following, the Blu-ray and DVD sets fall a little short. You can check out the complete list of extras (featuring footage from the 2012 Comic Con panel), below. Additionally, if you’ve been holding off to buy the complete series set, Warner Bros. has both a complete series Blu-ray and DVD in the works, although all of the details regarding that release are not set in stone, yet.

Fringe Blu-ray and DVD Bonus Features

  • A Farewell to Fringe (Featurette)
  • Fringe Panel at Comic-Con 2012
  • Producer Commentary
  • Gag Reel

Assumedly, the reason for such an early announcement is to give fans time to pre-order, and you can do so via Amazon.
