Subscribe To Fortitude Gets Series Order At Starz Updates
With Boss cancelled and Spartacus wrapping up this week, Starz has some room in its original programming schedule. The network has already signed on for Da Vinci’s Demons, and now the subscription cable station has partnered up with the British channel Sky Atlantic for a brand new series called Fortitude.

The drama will follow an arctic town known as Fortitude. After the brutal murder of a British scientist who was researching in the area, the town will be quite unsettled and it will be up to local officer Sheriff Dan Anderssen and British Detective Milton Caldwell to determine whodunit. According to Deadline, Fortitude will be a show that mixes genres (I’m guessing mixing procedural, mystery, and thriller, but my guess is as good as yours), which sounds like it will be a good fit for the subscription cable network. The arctic setting, unlike Discovery’s upcoming miniseries, Klondike, will be set in the present.

If it seems strange that we haven’t heard much about this project already, it shouldn’t. Starz and Sky Atlantic’s joint partnership has given Fortitude a straight-to-series order of 13 episodes. The series is being written by Low Winter Sun miniseries writer Simon Donald and, apparently, his track record is enough to move forward with this project without going through the dreaded pilot stage of production. Fortitude is expected to premiere on the network in late 2014 after it shoots on location in the coming year. We will keep you updated as the program moves forward and begins casting.
