Josh Groban To Guest Star On CBS Comedy The Crazy Ones

As though CBS' new comedy The Crazy Ones doesn't already have enough of a draw with series stars Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar, the series is adding to its appeal right out of the gate by packing on the guest stars. And musical ones, in particular. We have an appearance by Kelly Clarkson to look forward to with the pilot, and now it looks like Josh Groban's planning to drop by the freshman comedy at some point. Only, unlike Clarkson, who will be playing herself in her episode, Groban's been cast as a character, and from the sound of it, a goofy one at that.

Josh Groban may be better known for his outstanding vocal abilities, but he's done a bit of acting over the course of his career, occasionally appearing in TV or film. He has a particular knack for comedy, whether it's playing himself or playing a role. EW says Groban has signed on for a guest spot on The Crazy Ones in the series' sixth episode. His character is described as a nerdy guy who has a crush on Sarah Michelle Gellar's Sydney. In fact, he's so into her that he writers, produces and performs a creepy song about her.

Something tells me there are a lot of women out there who'd be all too happy to be serenaded by Josh Groban, but in this case, it sounds like his musical talents are overshadowed by the creepy factor. And that could make for some great comedy.

Groban's no stranger to network television, having appeared as himself on Glee and as Andy's better-appreciated brother Walter Bernard, Jr. in The Office. He also played himself in an episode of CSI: NY this year. And then there was his appearance as Emma Stone's dull boyfriend Richard in Crazy, Stupid, Love. Maybe he'll have better luck in love with Sydney than he did with Stone's Hannah, though by the description it doesn't sound like it. On the bright side, we'll presumably get to hear him sing, which is always a plus!

The Crazy Ones stars Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar as father and daughter characters Simon and Sydney. The duo work together at a big advertising agency. While Sidney is focused and organized, Simon's known for his unorthodox and unpredictable behavior, which sometimes clashes with his daughter. Of course, he's brilliant at what he does, which may make working with him a bit more bearable.

If you haven't seen it already, here's the trailer:

The Crazy Ones premieres Thursday, September 26 at 9:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
