The Originals Episode 18 Preview: A Shaky Alliance

As always, there are spoilers from last night’s episode in the paragraphs, below!

The CW is big on taking fairly large hiatuses (I can’t even remember the last time I saw a new episode of Hart of Dixie). With that in mind, it’s not surprising that The Originals’ brand new preview “The Big Uneasy” mentions that the supernatural drama will be disappearing from the schedule until April 15. That’s a long time before the witches, wolves, vampire and hybrids will wreak havoc on the social hierarchy in NOLA, but luckily, we have some love triangles to tide us over.

The Originals hasn’t lost any steam in recent weeks, despite a season that has been full of twists and turns. Last week’s episode was full of intricate plot changes assumedly meant to open up a bunch of new storylines. Feisty witch Davina returned from the dead just as original vampire Rebekah decided New Orleans no longer offered her any reason to say. It probably didn’t help that she betrayed her brother, Klaus, but that’s a story for a different preview.

This week, Klaus and co. threw a stunning, massive party. Both Klaus and Marcel like a good party, but there was a reason behind this one: to find a new leader for New Orleans. After all the turmoil the show has put that city through, you would think NOLA would catch a break, and by the end of the episode, a resolution of sorts was agreed upon, although it was a resolution that feels pretty transient. The werewolves, witches, vampires and hybrids have all—with a little help from Hayley—signed a contract to rule the city together. It sounds pretty democratic and peaceful, but there is certain to be some drama to stir the pot.

Indeed, the preview for the April episode already directly hints at alliance forming between different factions of supernatural beings. Hayley is still in direct contact with Elijah, but Klaus seems to be dancing with a few different witches, hoping to form bonds and (I’m sure) cause trouble. At the very end of the preview, some vampires and witches take action, leading me to believe that some sort of takeover is in the works. But who and what will be causing trouble is very much up in the air. We have nearly a month before any of this potential conflict makes any headway, but in the meantime, there is plenty to mull over.

You can catch a new episode of the CW’s The Originals on April 15 at 8 p.m. ET. Recent episodes are also available online.
