We learned last Fall that Netflix was reviving the cancelled AMC drama The Killing for one final season, which would air this year. Netflix has the dark drama lined up to premiere Season 4 on August 1 and to celebrate this news, they've given us a teaser that reminds fans that the drama tends to be dripping with rain... and blood. Murder and bad weather do seem to be two of the themes of this series.
AMC's The Killing struggled with its ratings when it aired on the cable channel, but still managed to return for a third season before AMC cancelled it for good. And then Netflix un-cancelled it, or rescued it or however you want to look at it, and set it up to air its final season this August.
The Killing is based on a Danish series called Forbrydelsen, and stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman as Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder, two homicide deceives who team up to investigate a murder in Seattle, Washington. The first two seasons focus on Sarah and Holder as they investigate the murder of teen Rosie Larsen. The third season shifted to a new case as Linden and Holder investigated the disappearance of a runaway girl, which led them to discover a gruesome string of murders that connected to one of Linden's old cases. Those who haven't seen the series or need to get caught up between now and August 1 can check out the first three seasons of The Killing streaming on Netflix.
Netflix hasn't given up many details about what they have planned for Season 4, but we do know that the 6-episode season will serve as the conclusion of this story.
Netflix has a number of original dramas lined up or set to return in the coming months. They've recently begun showing off more from their returning prison-set drama Orange is the New Black, which premieres Season 2 on June 6. And Netflix recently set the Season 2 return date for their horror-drama Hemlock Grove for July 11. So The Killing is lined up after that, and there's even more to come for the streaming video service. Also coming out later this year is the third season of Lilyhammer, one of Netflix's first original series. And then, of course, there's House of Cards, which will be back for Season 3 in 2015.
In terms of new series, we know that Netflix is gearing up for adventure with a Marco Polo series due out later this year. There's also a slate of Marvel series on the horizon, not to mention the Wachowskis sci-fi series Sense8. So there's no shortage of great original content rolling out at the streaming video service.
