Community Season 6 Premiere Date Set

Ever since Yahoo announced it was picking up Community, fans have been itching to find out when the show would premiere. Details on this information have been on the hush hush, until now. It turns out Community will premiere on March 17, 2015! Time to start getting excited.

Community is slated to air Season 6, 13 episodes in total, on a weekly basis on Yahoo’s video sharing website, Yahoo Screen. The show seems to have everything in line now as far as it’s production and air dates, let’s just hope the same can be said for the cast itself.

With Chevy Chase long gone and Greendale staple Donald Glover leaving partway through last season, it’s safe to say fans have been a bit worried. More recently, Jonathan Banks (Professor Hickey) and Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley) have both announced their exits as well, the former to fill his role on AMC’s Better Call Saul, the latter to take care of her sick father. In a bid to fill the void, show-runners have really stepped up their game, landing some new key players including Keith David (Enlisted), Paget Brewster (American Dad!) and Clue actors Martin Mull and Lesley Ann Warren.

Normally I’d be a bit concerned with this much of a shakeup, but the talent behind Community always pulls through. Let’s be honest, they carried on when show creator Dan Harmon was fired several seasons back (and eventually re-hired) and even worse yet, when the series was cancelled by NBC prior to Yahoo Screen swooping in to rescue it. Any series that can make it through these kinds of circumstances can certainly survive a few casting swaps.

Watch Brewster and her new Community cast members announce the series premiere date in the clever little subliminal ad-infested clip below. Playing on the series’ now-infamous uncertainty Joel McHale begins, “You know who I am… well if you’re really old you don’t. And if you’re really young, like a baby, you don’t.” Other members of the cast and crew, including Alison Brie, Danny Pudi and Harmon echo McHale’s confusion, prior to delivering a confident pitch for Community’s new, ultimately superior life on Yahoo Screen.

I’m actually thrilled with the show’s new home on Yahoo, where it can be free to push boundaries without being as concerned about the Federal Communications Commission. I’m also very excited with the addition of Keith David, playing a retired scientist named Elroy Patashnik who finds work at the community college. With his history playing a scientist (sort of) in The Thing and his top-notch comedic chops, proven in There’s Something About Mary, he should fit right in at Greendale. Brewster's background in comedy should also make her a fine addition to the comedy as education consultant Francesca “Frankie” Dent. The same can be said of Mull and Warren, who are set to fill the roles of Britta’s parents, George and Deb Perry.

Season 6 of Community is fast approaching so it’s time to start getting pumped. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the big premiere, taking place on March 17.
