Scorpion made a big splash when it premiered on CBS last TV season, and now the network is pairing its big series with a high profile new drama. While filming the Scorpion Comic-Con panel on Thursday, the creative team revealed that Scorpion is going to have a giant Season 2 premiere episode, and it will air opposite the Supergirl series premiere this fall.
We’ve known for a while that Supergirl is going to air on Mondays, initially hitting the schedule on October 26 at 8:30 p.m. ET, following an original episode of The Big Bang Theory. On Thursday, the Scorpion team revealed that a 90-minute Season 2 episode is in the cards, allowing the show to go in a bigger and bolder direction than it has ever gone in before. Scorpion will actually hit the schedule in September, but the special episode will air on October 26, airing between 9:30 and 11 p.m. ET. It’s a smart move for CBS to sandwich Supergirl in among two of the network’s most popular programs on the night it premieres, in order to nab as many eyeballs as possible for the newbie.

Thanks to Thursday Night Football, CBS’ schedule is going to be a bit of a mess this fall. Early in the season, The Big Bang Theory (and new comedy Life in Pieces) will be shuffled to Mondays, where it will air in September and October before being shuffled into CBS regular comedy lineup on Thursday nights on November 5. On the fifth, Big Bang and Life in Pieces will be shuffled into the 8 and 8:30 p.m. timeslots, while Mom, new comedy Angel From Hell and Elementary will officially hit the schedule that evening.
Scorpion has been a big property for CBS, not only because it brings in a lot of total viewers, but also because the show draws in a lot of younger viewers, especially those in the coveted 18-49 demographic. Because of this ratings success, Scorpion was one of three brand new dramas that were renewed relatively early in the TV season last year. Along with Scorpion, NCIS: New Orleans and Madame Secretary earned early renewals, as well.
To get fans a little more excited about Scorpion, the team also revealed at Comic-Con that rock star Gene Simmons will have a cameo in the Season 2 premiere. There’s a lot of good stuff coming on Scorpion this fall, and you can tune in and catch it yourself when it hits the schedule on Monday, September 21 at 9 p.m. ET.
