Miley Cyrus Is Heading To The Voice, Get The Details

NBC’s The Voice just picked their key advisor for Season 10, and it looks like this could be a wild one. They’ve decided to have Miley Cyrus work with the contestants on the singing competition, and she announced the news in a, now typical, Miley Cyrus way.

Ah, yes. The singing star and pop culture phenomenon posted the news on her Twitter feed, via this shot of her using her infamous tongue on judge Christina Aguilera’s turn-my-chair-around button. There will be no jokes about that tongue, I promise.

The Voice first aired in April of 2011, but that spring series proved so popular that it was expanded to encompass and additional fall cycle every year in September 2012. On the show, four judges critique competitors after a blind audition, and then the judges who want the artists to join their team compete by trying to convince the contested singers that they will be the best judge to help bring out the best of the singers’ talents. Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and country star Blake Shelton have judged on every season of the show, while the other two judging seats have been rotated among CeeLo Green, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Usher, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams.

Well, everyone knows Miley Cyrus, probably even a lot of people who don’t really want to know who she is. Cyrus started out as the squeaky clean star of the Disney Channel sensation Hannah Montana. The show focused on a schoolgirl with a secret life as a teen pop star, and the show premiered to the largest audience for any Disney Channel program at the time, and soon became one of the highest rated shows on basic cable. Hannah Montana helped propel Cyrus to the heights of teen idol status and lasted from 2006 through 2011, with a big screen movie in 2009.

In 2010 she ranked at number 13 on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list for making an estimated $48 million from June of 2009 to June of 2010. She was also the fourth highest earner under 30 on the list and the youngest person to crack the top 100. While her financial success as a singer is undeniable, and has continued since her Hannah Montana days ended, most people now know Cyrus for her outlandish public persona. Her outfits regularly out-weird artists like Lady Gaga, she frequently sticks out her tongue for no reason and makes goofy faces, and she’s become quite accustomed to generally causing a ruckus everywhere she goes.

It would be fair to say that Miley Cyrus is an interesting choice in a key advisor for The Voice. With the show starting to show signs of age with its tenth season fast approaching, it possible that producers were looking to add someone to the mix to get people excited about the show again. Hopefully, though, the contestants will get honest, distraction-free assistance from the new advisor. There might be nothing worse for the show than Cyrus simply using it to stick her tongue out even more than she already does.
