Could Even More Sons Of Anarchy Shows Be On The Way?

It isn’t often that news inspires me to start making motorcycle noises with my mouth – although I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s rare – but it definitely happened when FX announced earlier today that it is moving forward with the in-development Sons of Anarchy spinoff. Actor Rusty Coones appeared on a morning show today and boosted my SAMCRO spirits even higher by hinting at even more Sons of Anarchy material coming to viewers in the future. Though he says right away that he’s not on a need-to-know basis with creator Kurt Sutter, he certainly seems confident otherwise.

I'm not privy to all the inside stuff like that, but there will be some things coming. No doubt about it. There's going to be some kind of mini-series or maybe a regular series. Maybe a movie, you know, based on the original series. Timelines might be a little different. Maybe a prequel on one of them. There's a lot of options with that to work with.

I say this with all due respect, but Rusty Coones sounds a little bit too eager in thinking that the future will see Sons of Anarchy completely taking over all live-action visual media. Not that I’d have a problem with it, considering that brand of sometimes soapy and always hyper-violent drama is just my pint glass of tea in some ways.

As Coones mentioned, Kurt Sutter has his mind wrapped around a prequel concept in which fans would likely get to see the story behind SAMCRO’s formation as put into gear by the First 9, which includes Jax’s father John “J.T.” Teller. That approach could easily work within the miniseries format, if FX only wanted to bring the franchise back around for a short time (which probably wouldn’t be the wisest choice). It could also work as a multi-season series, given how much history those founding members shared, which would allow for some other aspect of the show to get explored through a miniseries if the network was so inclined. Something with Tig would be my choice.

I guess I hadn’t ever seriously considered a Sons of Anarchy movie existing in this reality, even though that would allow for the material to get even darker and dirtier. Still, I’m personally more invested in an extended serialized narrative, but you bet your chapped ass I’d be in the theater to watch it if it happened.

”Sons

Rusty Coones, who shared his thoughts with 104.9 WXRX’s Stone and Double T, played Rane Quinn, a former Nomad member and recurring character in early seasons that joined SAMCRO proper for Seasons 6 and 7. Though never a major player, the Attika 7 guitarist was one of the still-living characters when the finale’s credits rolled, so it makes sense that he’d be relatively high up the grapevine when it comes to the show’s potential future. While the spinoff will concern the Mayan M.C., thus not giving Quinn much of a chance to appear, there’s always a chance that we’ll get to see him again in some Sons of Anarchy iteration or another, be it on the big or small screen.

Are you guys excited to possibly get more Sons of Anarchy than ever in the future?
