Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll Canceled After Two Seasons On FX

Sex&drugs&rock&roll FX Denis Leary

Every network eventually finds its niche, and FX found its in the creation of edgy series that straddle the line between drama and comedy. It's seen great success with shows like Louie, and the recently released Baskets, but not all of these shows have a permanent shelf life. Sometimes decent shows must be cancelled to make room for the next round of projects, and that means the curtain will soon lower on Denis Leary's Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll after two seasons.

According to a brand new report from Deadline, it appears that FX has decided to break up the band and cancel Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll after two seasons on the air. Denis Leary's dark comedy centering on its four titular elements premiered in the summer of 2015 to mixed reviews, and maintained a moderate following up until its recent cancellation. The series won't be remembered as the best project that FX ever brought to the small screen, but it generated a healthy enough amount of laughs to warrant two whole seasons, which is nothing to scoff at.

As the title of the series would appropriately suggest, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll revolved around a quintessentially Denis Leary premise. Centering on a washed up rock star 25 years after his 15 minutes of fame, the series follows him as he signs on to write songs for a young, ambitious singer. Her only condition for getting him back into the music world? He gets to write the songs, but he's not allowed to take the spotlight in any way.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll isn't the only FX series to get the axe recently. In addition to the Denis Leary fronted comedy, we also recently learned that the edgy network also cancelled Middle Eastern political drama, Tyrant, after three seasons. With the recent conclusions of shows like Justified, and Sons of Anarchy, FX has really cleaned the slate for new series to enter the fray.

Atlanta Better Things

Although audiences will miss these series, it already looks like FX has endeavored to bring in plenty of heavy hitters to replace them. Donald Glover's new show, Atlanta, recently premiered to widespread critical acclaim -- you can check out our review here -- and the upcoming Pamela Adlon fronted series, Better Things, should fill the void left by Louis C.K.'s absence on the network. Some FX series may not last for very long, but the network always has another high quality project waiting in the wings.

We will bring you any and all relevant details related to the cancellation of Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll as more information becomes available to us. For now, make sure to check out CinemaBlend's comprehensive fall TV premiere schedule and fill out your TV viewing calendars accordingly!
