South Korea Parodied Game Of Thrones For Really Weird Election Coverage

Game of Thrones is one of the biggest shows on television, with a global reach that has created fans all over the world. South Korea recently played on the Game of Thrones craze with some pretty wild election coverage. It's a surprisingly elaborate parody of some of the most iconic aspects of the series, and it certainly gives a new twist on election coverage. Check it out!

In case you've ever been watching election coverage and thought "Hmm, what this is really missing is DRAGONS!" to yourself, this may be the video you've been waiting for. The coverage from South Korea's SBS News certainly spiced up what many of us have come to expect during election season. I know I would have gotten less worn down by all the constant campaign news in the 2016 Presidential election if there had been tigers, dragons, and jousts involved. Of course, if you're anything like me, you thought this looked more like a video game revolving around some surprisingly nonchalant warriors than anything else, but it's worth a rewatch either way.

Whoever put the coverage together clearly had a working knowledge of Game of Thrones. Some of the candidates ended up in the wrong part of the kingdom if this was really going to follow Thrones, as Jon Snow and other members of the Night's Watch haven't exactly sailed across the Narrow Sea or galloped through Vaes Dothrak. I definitely don't remember Jon riding a dragon (although that could happen in future seasons now that his parents have been revealed). Still, I'm on board.

That said, it's a little surprising how closely the commercial resembles aspects of the show. I wasn't expecting to hear the actual theme song used by a South Korean news network, but I also wasn't expecting most of what I saw in the footage. Of course, this wasn't the first time we've seen unexpected Game of Thrones parodies. The comic duo Not Literally put together a video mourning character deaths, and a children's book version of Game of Thrones hit the web as well.

Then, there was the recent Family Guy gag that saw Brian Griffin channeling his inner Jon Snow to be stabbed by members of the Night's Watch. My personal favorite, however, was the Sesame Street take on Game of Thrones that put a very different spin on the action of Westeros than I ever expected to see. Grover's role in Game of Chairs is worth checking out for sure.
