Lindsay Lohan Just Landed Her First Big Scripted TV Role

Lindsay Lohan was once one of the biggest names in showbiz, but she hasn't done all that much in recent years. Now, she's poised to make a comeback of sorts thanks to a brand new role. Lohan, whose biggest claims to fame come from the big screen, will join the cast of a small screen project set across the pond. She has signed on for a key role in the second season of new British comedy Sick Note.

Sick Note follow the unfortunate life of Daniel Glass, an incurable liar who spends his days in a terrible insurance job and remains stuck in an unhappy relationship, and he's not at all helped by the attentions of his boss. When Daniel is wrongly diagnosed with a deadly disease, he covers up the misdiagnosis and begins lying to everybody around him about his health. Lindsay Lohan will play Katerina West, the daughter of Daniel's boss Kenny West. No word yet on whether she'll be called upon to do one of her accents.

The British sitcom hasn't actually debuted yet on Sky1, where it landed a 10 p.m. time slot that means it can get pretty wild and edgy. The folks at Sky1 evidently have a lot of faith in the series, as it was renewed for a second season before the first season even hit the airwaves. Given the cast of the series, it's not too surprising that people behind the scenes would believe that viewers will tune in.

Rupert Grint -- best known, of course, for his role as Ron Weasley in the eight Harry Potter films -- stars as Daniel Glass. Don Johnson of Miami Vice is on board as the irrepressible Kenny West, and Nick Frost of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz plays Daniel's terrible doctor Ian Glennis. We haven't seen any of them in action yet on Sick Note, so we can't guess how Lindsay Lohan will fit in, but hopefully she'll be a good match.

Sick Note is actually the second TV show Lindsay Lohan has signed on for in 2017. Back in March, she revealed that she will be hosting a reality show called The Anti Social Network, which will put her in charge of contestants' social media accounts. She'll use Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat to get people into seriously sticky situations with those around them. No network was attached to The Anti Social Network when it was first announced, so we can't say where or when it will debut.

What we can say for sure is that Sick Note will be Lindsay Lohan's biggest scripted TV gig in her career so far. Aside from a recurring role on Ugly Betty, Lohan's roles on TV have largely been guest spots on scripted series or personal appearances as herself. Who knows? Maybe Sick Note will be what Lohan needs to really get back in the showbiz game. We'll have to wait and see.
