First Look At Nick Kroll's New Netflix Show Big Mouth Is A Hilariously Weird Take On Teen Puberty

It is no secret that puberty can suck. Your body goes through some pretty rough changes, and your hormones leave you fairly ill-equipped to deal with those changes in a logical way. It is something that we all have to deal with at one point or another, and Nick Kroll's upcoming animated Netflix series Big Mouth takes steady aim at that tumultuous period. Check out the trailer for the cartoon below to see for yourself. (Note that the language can get pretty NSFW, too.)

Okay, so that may be a somewhat exaggerated take on the typical "pubescent boy" archetype -- there is, as far as I'm aware, no real Hormone Monster lurking in anyone's bedrooms -- but it still cuts to the core of some deep-seated insecurities that tend to pop up during our teenage years. From there, one of the most interesting things that you should notice about Big Mouth is the sheer amount of comedic talent that Nick Kroll has enlisted to pad its ranks. Aside from the former League star himself, the series has also managed to lock down the voice acting chops of comedy powerhouses like Jenny Slate, Get Out director Jordan Peele, and Saturday Night Live veterans Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph, among several others.

Then there's stand-up comedian John Mulaney, whose recent collaborations with Nick Kroll have resulted in some of the best (albeit weirdest) comedy bits in recent memory. In fact, Big Mouth is their second major Netflix collaboration, as they recently released an official special for their fan-favorite Broadway show, Oh Hello! (itself a spinoff of Kroll's now-canceled Kroll Show), and that has become a shining example of the kind of programming Netflix should do more often. If Big Mouth manages to maintain this level of absurd-yet-relatable comedy, then we can rest easy knowing that series may become one of Netflix's flagship properties.

Of course, the difference between something like Oh Hello! and Big Mouth seems to be the fact that Big Mouth seems designed from the ground up to exist on a non-restrictive platform like Netflix. It strikes many of the same darkly humorous story beats achieved by fellow Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman, so let's keep our fingers crossed that Big Mouth can also reach the same level of technical wizardry during its run as well.

With all of that said, as much as we love that first clip for Big Mouth, we cannot forget the female side of puberty as well. Check out the show's girl-centric first look below.

See? Puberty pretty much sucks no matter who you are. Now we will just have to wait and see what other delightfully awkward topics Big Mouth will be mining when the show finally makes its debut.

Speaking of, Big Mouth will make its Netflix debut on September 29 at 12:01 a.m. PT. Until then, make sure to take a look at our summer TV premiere guide and fall TV premiere guide for more in-depth information on the biggest television premieres of the next few months!
