Orange Is The New Black’s Jenji Kohan Is Making Even More Shows For Netflix

Orange is the New Black

Netflix has managed to sweep up some of the entertainment industry's best creative minds over the last few years. David Fincher has wowed audiences with his work on dark series like Mindhunter and House of Cards, while Tina Fey continues to deliver the laughs with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. One of the platform's most powerful creatives is none other than Jenji Kohan, and now it looks like we are going to see quite a bit more of her work over the next few years, as she has just signed a massive overall deal with the streaming service.

Netflix has officially announced a new overall deal with Jenji Kohan. Though specifics about her upcoming projects remain unclear, the announcement does confirm that the Orange is the New Black creator will now work exclusively with Netflix to develop new series "and other projects" over the next few years.

As for her resume, Jenji Kohan has already proven that she has the chops to produce a hit for the streaming service. She first made a name for herself on Netflix with her work on Orange is the New Black, which has since gone on to become recognized as one of the first major original hits for the platform. From there, she has since gone on to become one of the executive producers of GLOW, which debuted to an overwhelmingly positive reception this summer and has since gone on to receive a second season order. In simple terms: Kohan is riding a hot streak right now.

It is also worth mentioning that Jenji Kohan brings a very specific personal viewpoint to the content that she produces. She, as well as the folks at Netflix, seem to recognize the political and cultural discussion that has taken place over the last few years, and Netflix seems particularly interested in allowing her to bring her perspective to the stories of these upcoming projects. To date, much of her most well-known work centers on female protagonists in series that balance offbeat humor with interpersonal drama. And if she sticks to what she has become known for, then we can reasonably assume more of those types of stories are coming to Netflix within the next couple of years as she develops new projects.

CinemaBlend will keep you up to date with more information related to Jenji Kohan's new overall deal with Netflix as further details about the arrangement become available to us.
