First Look At Titans' Hawk And Dove Is Straight Out Of The Comics

The long-awaited Titans TV show is finally in the works, and it's slated to debut in 2018 on DC's upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service. The series will bring together some legendary heroes from DC Comics history for a show that seemed for a while like it would never happen. Many of the heroes have already been cast, but we'd only gotten a look at Brenton Thwaites in his Robin duds as Dick Grayson. Now, that's changed, as we finally have a look at the superhero duo known as Hawk and Dove, and their getup is straight out of the pages of comics. Check them out!

Hawk and Dove are being played by Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly, respectively. There have been multiple incarnations of heroes goes by the names "Hawk" and "Dove" over the years in DC Comics, but we do already know which versions will hit the small screen in Titans. Hawk will be Hank Hall, an aggressive fighter with the ability to muscle his way to victory over just about any opponent. Dove is Dawn Granger, who is more of a defensive fighter whose combined strategic thinking and physical flexibility make her a fitting partner for Hawk. Viewers can count on some romance from these two as well as some kickass crime-fighting.

Like the Robin costume, the Hawk and Dove costumes seem to take the outfits from the comics and update them for 21st century crime-fighting while still keeping the essentials accurate. The goggles on Dove in particular look like they've simply been plucked from the comics and slightly tweaked, and Hawk even seems to have the marking on the forehead of his costume as he had on the page.

Personally, I'm most excited about the capes on both heroes in the first look. Costume designer Laura Jean Shannon (who has worked on superhero projects like Black Lightning and Iron Man) has managed to give them capes that mimic feathers without looking kind of ridiculous in live action. Also like the Robin costume, the Titans outfits seem to have a fitting amount of armor to protect them in battle, which is exactly the right kind of update for a superhero series in 2018.

No exact premiere date for Titans has yet been announced, but the release of images of three of the heroes definitely indicates progress. Who knows? Maybe we'll get to see photos of Starfire, Raven, and/or Beast Boy in the not-too-distant future. Those three roles have already been cast, and while it's no surprise that leading man Dick Grayson got the first image released, perhaps the release of the Hawk and Dove photo means that some more of the side characters' looks will hit the web sooner rather than later.

We'll have to wait and see. The DC direct-to-consumer streaming service won't be available until 2018, but there are still ways to catch superhero action on the small screen.
