Where The Sister Sister TV Revival Is At, According To Tamera Mowry-Housley

Tia & Tamera and Roger Sister Sister ABC The WB

Reboots and revivals are all the rage nowadays, and fans of Sister, Sister have long wondered if it could return to the airwaves. Last year Tia Mowry-Hardrict announced that she and twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley were in the process of trying to bring their old show back to television, but that task was proving to be more difficult than they thought it would be. After months of silence on the subject, their former co-star Jackée Harry seemingly broke the news to Steve Harvey last week that the revival was officially a go. Now, Mowry-Housley is setting the record straight on the status of the revival:

The thing is, nothing new is happening. I think maybe Jackée was really excited or something, but we're still in the process. But nothing is confirmed yet. We have a writer ... we're just trying to find a home for the show. But we have everything else, and everyone is signed on, so that's what we're waiting on. So one more step.

In Jackée Harry's defense, Tamera Mowry-Housley did give an update that revealed some progress has been made towards a Sister, Sister revival since the twins last spoke to the media. Since then, they found a writer for the series, but still no network ready to take them up on their offer to revive the series. While that sounds like a bad sign, networks simply might not have agreed to air the series yet because they haven't had a chance to meet with the full team and discuss the show. Mowry-Housley told EW that her sister Tia Mowry-Hardrict is pregnant and their writer is currently off doing a play in New York. Mowry-Housley said once those two are free in a couple of months, meetings for Sister, Sister's return will resume.

Does that mean Sister, Sister could return to television before the end of 2018? Probably not, but it is worth noting that Tamera Mowry-Housley said fans could see the revival happening in 2019. Of course, that's all depending on how these meetings go. With the twins still a couple months out from resuming talks regarding the show's return, Mowry-Housley likely doesn't know that for sure.

Sister, Sister's first network, ABC, is primed to air a Roseanne revival in late March, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that ABC would be willing to pursue another revival. Should ABC pass, however, there are plenty of other networks that would probably love to see the series return on its platform. Given that, Tamera Mowry-Housley may well be correct that 2019 is the year Sister, Sister returns.

Re-runs of Sister, Sister can currently be seen on the FUSE network. For a look at some shows that are currently running new episodes or set to debut in 2018, head on over to our midseason premiere guide.
