It's a very good time to be a TV fan. Between cable, network, and streaming services, there is a wealth of fantastic content being produced, inspiring film stars to make the transition over to the small screen. Perhaps no show is a better example of this than HBO's sci-fi epic Westworld. The first season debuted to massive acclaim in December of 2016, with an all-star cast that included the likes of Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, and Evan Rachel Wood. The fans have been eager for the show's sophomore season, which should arrive sometime this year. But luckily, we'll be treated to some new footage very soon. Namely, in just one day's time.
Fans of Westworld who are eager to return to the titular park should be sure to pay attention during the Super Bowl's commercials. Because its during the Big Game that HBO will debut a trailer for the show's second season. This is almost enough to make fans' mouths water, as we've been waiting for well over a year for at least a hint about what Season 2 might entail. Luckily, the wait is almost over.
HBO and the folks working on Westworld haven't been totally heartless. They did deliver a few second teaser about six months ago, but it was purposefully short in length and vague in regards to what Season 2 will be about. As such, news of tomorrow's trailer, which comes to us from EW, will be enough to make fans yee-haw with joy.
Narratively, there are a ton of question currently looming around Westworld. The season finale was pure chaos, and seemed to tease a Season 2 that will be quite different from the first outing. There are quite a few plot lines to be explored, the most fascinating being the situation currently happening within the park. During the big shareholder meting, Dolores shot and killed Robert Ford, revealing that the hosts were now able to harm guest within the park. Just then a massive horde of formerly retired hosts descended upon the event, which will no doubt lead to a bloodbath. Additionally, Thandie Newton's Maeve decided not to escape, but return to find a host that was formerly programmed to be her daughter.
It should be interesting to see how the stakes of Westworld continue to get higher. In addition to the myriad guests who are currently in danger, we also know that the other parks will factor into the show's sophomore season on HBO. With Jimmi Simpson having confirmed that he'll pop up sometime in Season 2, it also appears that the series will once again be playing with timelines and the long history of the Man in Black.
Westworld's Super Bowl commercial will hit sometime during the Big Game tomorrow, and the show's second season is set to arrive sometime this year.
